Happy 5 months, Baby Nate!
I’ve been wanting to write monthly updates for you but as you know, it is very challenging for me to squeeze out time for you in this very busy household. And when I do get some time, I would much rather be spending it with you rather than try to write! But it’s been 5 months, so to mark this special day, here are 5 things we love about you:
1. We love that you are our little teddy bear and we love hugging you!
Maybe it’s because you’re my last baby, but I can’t get enough of hugging you, squishing your chubby legs and arms and kissing your fat cheeks! Your Papa commented that he doesn’t remember me being this way with your brother and sister, and it’s true. With them, I didn’t know to cherish this baby stage. I kept looking forward, eager to see what comes next. And look at them now, all tall and gangly, and on the verge of leading their own lives. So with you I know better. I’m going to hug and squish you for as long as you’ll let me!
2. We love your absolutely sunshine gummy smile.
You have the cutest smile, you know that? The sort that absolutely lights up your face and makes those around you smile. But I’ve got to admit, you’re pretty stingy with them. Only when you’re in a good mood do the smiles come freely, mostly commonly when you first wake up in the morning. Otherwise, those that try to engage you either get a quizzical stare or a blank look when you’re not in the mood. Aunty Joanne commented that you’ve got blue steel down pat, and that made me laugh! Let’s reward those around you with more smiles, shall we?
3. We love how easy-going you are.
You are definitely, hands-down, my easiest baby. The only one who hardly cries, can be left for a while to self-entertain, and who will drop off to sleep on your own in the stroller when you need to sleep. You certainly need to sleep a lot, which is a very good thing in my books! Perhaps you were made to be a 3rd child because you are so ok with the fact that you don’t have much of a real schedule. You follow me around as your siblings get around on their schedules and sometimes you fall asleep in the car, only to be roused later when we arrive at our destination. But you rarely fuss at all when that happens. Sometimes you’ll put yourself back to sleep and sometimes you’ll stay awake, quietly looking around. Sometimes you seem to be asking me, with your eyes — “is it my turn now, Mama?” And you nuzzle into me and go to sleep. I promise I’ll make more time for you next year, sweetheart.
4. We love how you make your siblings better people.
You are the apple of everyone’s eye, particularly your Gor gor and Jie jie, who absolutely adore you. You are the first person they rush to in the morning, sometimes to the detriment of your sleep. You’ll realise how nice they really are to you when you come to understand how un-nice they are to each other! I used to think your Gor gor was unable to be love anyone as much or more than himself. Then you came along. Your Gor for is so gentle with you it’s like he’s another person. You can step on him, pull his hair and grab his things without repercussions. For now at least. I dunno how long he’ll stand for it but consider yourself privileged! As for your Jie jie, she’s always been great with little ones, so I’m so glad you’re here to allow her to really blossom as a big sister. You already love playing with her and I’m sure you would have a lot of fun with her when you grow up.
5. We love that you are OUR baby!
Can you tell that we are so glad that you are a part of our family?
Of course, there are things that we don’t love as much about you (*cough* please sleep better at night *cough*) but I know all of us would not trade you in for the world.
5 months down and a lifetime more with you to go!
Loving you to the moon and back.
Your Mama
