Of the places that I’ve started to frequent since becoming a stay-at-home-mum, the one that I didn’t expect was the post office. But I guess that’s because the post office has become so much more than just a place where you buy stamps and send letters. Most of the time I’m at the post office to pick up the odd registered post article that I wasn’t home to collect and to send out parcels both of my own and also for my husband. Let’s just say that we’ve gotten into the habit of buying and selling online! But I’ve also been to the post office to collect my IC (after I had to change it), to renew my road tax and err, pay some parking fines. The SAM machine has also come in handy for paying some bills.
I’ve been noticing them doing some renovation work around my neighbourhood post office and during my recent visit, I realised that the little corner has become a cosy little corner for AXA@POST. I subsequently learnt at the AXA@POST launch early this week that this is a new partnership between AXA and Singpost, the result of which adds general insurance solutions to the list of things you can get at the post office.
But wait, you say. Haven’t insurance solutions been offered at Singpost before? The short answer is yes, but these used to be provided by multiple insurance companies. With AXA@POST, you now need only deal with one company for all your insurance needs. In addition to life insurance plans, you can also get advice and purchase general insurance products such as car, home and travel insurance plans at AXA@POST. I sometimes don’t know where to turn to get some of these simpler, short term insurance needs like travel insurance sorted out. Now I know that I just have to go to the post office!
AXA@POST is located at 34 Singpost branches across the island, with plans to expand this to 44 branches by the end of 2015. Such general insurance needs can also be purchased online through Singpost’s online channels singpost.com, mysam.sg and omigo.com.sg.
One of the things I learnt at the launch is that most Singaporeans are underinsured, something that I was not very surprised to hear. I have friends who think that insurance is unnecessary because some risks “would never happen”. But if there’s one thing my own professional training has taught me, it is that while the risk may be small, when these things DO happen, the results can be catastrophic. So for me, insurance is a small price to pay to have peace of mind over those what-ifs. I am actually planning to re-look at our insurance coverage, so this initiative by AXA and Singpost is timely in providing an extra avenue for advice from AXA financial consultants. There’s a little bonus too: From now till 30 June 2015, customers who purchase policies at AXA@POST will enjoy a discount of 20% off SmartTraveller, SmartCover and SmartHome plans for travel, personal accident and home respectively.
Perhaps it is time to pop by the post office yet again.
