The kids and I got the best present this Children’s Day when we were blessed with haze-free skies. The bright sunlight and the heat were back in (nearly) full force but I really didn’t want to complain. Instead we took the opportunity of a day off and great weather to hit the park.
West Coast Park wasn’t actually on my agenda. I had planned to bring the kids down to the Esplanade for Octoburst on Friday. But we stopped at the West Coast Macs for breakfast because we were in the area, and hey, it’s Children’s Day so this is the time for Macs if any! The kids took longing looks at the playgrounds and open spaces outside and I knew we had to spend the morning in the great outdoors!
A hash brown in one hand and a Sausage McMuffin in another! First time he was trying the latter in stead of his usual pancakes and he loved it.
I’ve always loved West Coast Park because it’s so much fun! There are playgrounds for all ages with rope structures, slides, swings and even a flying fox. There are also tracks for scooting on, big grass areas for frisbees and kites, and there’s SAND! Throw in some friends and it makes for a perfect day out.
A chance meeting with a school mate = more fun all round!
Little spider girl! Totally inappropriately dressed since we were supposed to be headed to the Esplanade!
I was also real proud of Noey for conquering his own fears to climb all the way up near the top of the rope pyramid. While he chickened out from his first attempt at scaling it, he later went back quietly on his own for a repeat attempt, wanting to take the slides that launched from two different heights up the pyramid. When he’d successfully slid down both slides, he proudly came to tell me that he did it by telling himself to “just keep going” and not looking down. This little boy can sometimes give up rather easily so I was really glad to see him push himself past his own mental block to achieve something.
Sand play is always a hit.
Two roving explorers!
Fun free play for little ones!
It was, by all counts, a perfect ordinary morning, but one made extraordinary by the fact that it’s been about a month since we’ve been able to freely enjoy just being outdoors, the odd one or two haze-free days notwithstanding. We couldn’t have asked for more this Children’s Day!
Now let’s hope we can finally have our swimming lesson this Tuesday!
