It’s the husband’s birthday today.
I asked him what he wanted to do to celebrate, whether he wanted to do something special, but he just wanted to spend time with the family.
We had lunch at Raffles City and spent some time wandering around the mall after my plans to bring us all to the ACM to see the terracotta warriors were derailed by an uncooperative Noey. After returning home for the kids to nap and all of us to chill out, we headed out again to Orchard to shop for some homeware appliances. I got an electric air pot, Noey got an ice-cream and DD got a hotdog and snacks when we failed to find the fans he was looking for. (Naomi only got an outing. Poor baby.) Thereafter, we came home for the dinner of his choice, home-cooked chicken marcaroni, and rounded off the evening with watermelon and cake.
It was — minus the cake — a perfectly ordinary Saturday. I think I was a little put out by how ordinary it was, but he assured me he had a lovely day. “I didn’t even get scolded today!” he chuckled, to my protests.
That’s my husband, a man of simple needs. Time with family, an extra hour of sleep in the morning, and time to play Starcraft in the afternoon (without any complaints from me) was enough to make it a special day for him. That plus the fact that he was Noey’s favourite person today — the go-to person for all the reading and entertainment needs.
Happy birthday my dear! Even if, as you put it, half your life is over, I know we will be enjoying the other half of it together. Just don’t go have a mid-life crisis ok?

Happy birthday Daryl! Don't worry it's not mid-life yet, life expectancy is now at least 85 for those who've made it this far heh heh.

WHAT?! Half his life is over?! Nooooooo! I was thinking like, "Daryl is 40 or 45 already?!" 35 is too soon for midlife. Lol. My parents and my in-laws only went through mid-life at 50 =D
