As surprising as it may sound, shopping ranks lowly in my list of priorities on holiday. Sure I buy stuff, but I tend to go more for souvenirs than well, the clothes/shoes/bags that I would usually buy when shopping in Singapore - think postcards, museum guides, posters, and lots and lots of knick knacks and odd-ball items.(Of course, I have conveniently omitted the my shopping holidays where the entire purpose of the holiday was to shop, like Bangkok, Hong Kong, etc.)Aside from the above, the ... read more
Spring Break
I've been feeling rather restless and low in recent days. Too many things have been swirling around me, and brooding has been the order of the day. Guess there's nothing like a holiday to cheer me up.We've decided to go ahead with our travel plans despite the break being a little shorter than we would have liked. By squeezing out a couple of days at the beginning and at the end, we can get in a decent 10 days and so we are going to...More accurately just the southwest coast - Naples, Pompeii, ... read more
Bim-bim-bap!
One of the irritating things about my business trips is that they are always decided at the last minute. As a result of that, there's always a last-minute frantic rush for tickets. And because of that, we sometimes end up unable to get on SQ and end up on Korean Air. Like this time.On the positive side, this at least gives us more interesting meal options - like do-it yourself Bimbimbap! Severed complete with instructions.First, you take the rice and dump it in the big bowl on top of the ... read more
Not Quite Winter Sonata
For someone who has been to Korea 3 times now, I think I've honestly seen precious little of the sights of Seoul, let alone the rest of the country! Instead, I've come to learn odd little really random things about the place. For example, did you know:The surname "Choi" is pronounced "Chue". We were all majorly confused when our lawyers kept referring to "Mr Chue" when there seemed to us to be no such person. If public holidays fall on a Saturday or Sunday in Korea, it's just too bad - they don't ... read more
Korea, but not on Holiday
Back!Since last Friday actually - left Seoul on the 6pm flight and I was home safe by midnight. But the work has continued so the blog has taken a back seat. Somehow coming home after a long day just leaves me wanting to just zone out in front of the telly... :PIt was a busy time for all of us in Seoul the previous week - it was meetings galore. And for minions like me, lots of running around to manage the voluminous paperwork. The office where we had our daily meetings was literally a 1 minute ... read more
Modern and Ancient Disjunct
Doesn't this strike you as being incredibly incongruous? Spied this Starbucks joint across the road from our meeting room and it amused me, so much so that I had to snap a shot.Hello from Seoul! The weather it's cold but clear today and it makes me wish I was out in the open rather than being stuck in a meeting room. It's been a long week... ... read more
Our Riding Weekend
We're Back!Though, errr, considering my lack of consistency in updating this blog, you probably didn't even know we were away... Anyhow, it was DD's birthday weekend and it seemed like the perfect excuse to take a short break. We synchronised our leave and I took up the challenge of determining our destination, while keeping DD in suspense of course :) It being a holiday for the husband made things a little tricky, at least from my perspective. For one, it had to be restful and ideally, we ... read more
The Sun, Sand & Surf (Part 3)
We'll have been back for 3 weeks officially today. Sigh. So quickly, the holiday seems a world away. Hawaii and it's beautiful beaches, which make it THE PLACE to chill. The sun, the sand, and the surf... Bring it on.Nine: Chill out at the BeachMy favourite moments were those spent, just the 2 of us, enjoying you-and-me time by the beach. Little wonder maybe, since the beaches were all pretty spectacular. Stretches of (mostly) soft white sand with crystal clear water, stretching into nothingness ... read more
What’s There To Do? (Part 2)
Many people expressed surprise at the fact that we spent 2 whole weeks exploring the Hawaii. "What's there to do? For 2 whole weeks?"Plenty.Five: Sample good foodLoads of yummy food to be found! Pity the price of the good stuff meant that we reluctantly tried to restrain ourselves from splurging all the time. But I think we still managed to eat rather well.At Roy's, a simply amazing restaurant with Hawaiian fusion food - i.e. Western food with Jap influence. Reeaally yummy. The dish I'm staring ... read more
Newly-Weds on Honeymoon (Part 1)
Prelude: Trust my dear hubby to post about our honeymoon - and startright smack in the middle of the trip! Sigh. And me being the anal person that I am can't take it :) So here, in as bite-sized a portion as I can manage, is our holiday...Symptoms of being a newly-wed on honeymoon:When airline personnel/immigration ask you if you're married, your husband enthusiastically says "YES!" with a big smile. You happily show your husband the "how many family members are travelling together with you" box ... read more
