Being an almost 100% English speaking household, I'm more than little concerned about my kids' ability to master the Chinese language. It's not that we haven't tried speaking more Chinese at home. In fact, when Noey was born, we seriously considered having one parent speak exclusively to him in Chinese. Except, erm, have you heard me speak Chinese? Right. I really didn't want any child of mine growing up speaking the kind of Chinese that I was speaking, with my limited vocabulary and questionable ... read more
Shopping and Saving on Books at NoQ Store
It is no secret that I love buying books. When I see a good title, I simply cannot resist. With the proliferation of online bookstores with selections wider than you'd find in a physical bookstore, with lower prices to boot, I've been happily buying and (as I tell my husband) SAVING MONEY. Ah, love it when I can use that line!So the latest bookstore that I've been saving money at is NoQ Store. For the uninitiated, NoQ Store is the online bookstore of the Times Publishing Group, one of the most ... read more
Bali, Hi
How sweet it is to be… on vacation.Would you believe it's our first time back in Bali since we visited once in, erm, 2003. Then it was shortly after the Bali bombings, we stayed in Nusa Dua, and were harassed to death by touts everywhere. We left unimpressed. This time, oh, it's been lovely. It's back to my cocktails and milkshakes for me. Ciao!* The kids have been kindly dressed by Fox Kids and Babies, who join us as a clothing sponsor for next few months. More on that -- and more clothes -- when ... read more
Doing the Tarzan Thing at Forest Adventure
I think the first time I got to try out a rope course was probably at Outward Bound School during my secondary school days. Noey on the other hand got the chance to pretend to be Tarzan last weekend at the ripe ol' age of 5 (and a half) when he attended his friend's birthday party at Forest Adventure.(Kids birthday parties are so awesome these days, aren't they??)Forest Adventure has been on my radar for a while so I was very excited to have the opportunity to check it out. This is a tree top ... read more
Come Meet Mozart with the SSO!
If you were to meet Mozart, what would he be like and what would you ask him? That is the premise for the latest edition of SSO's Concerts for Children. Get Hooked on Fish & Co’s Mother’s Day Platter
Here's a friendly public service announcement: In case you haven't yet realised it, Mother's Day is just around the corner!I must admit that I never truly appreciated all that my Mum did - and is still doing - for me until I became a mum myself. That's the way it is with most kids, isn't it? You just tend to take your parents and the things they do for you for granted. That's definitely something that I'm still working to correct. So when Fish & Co recently held an early Mother's Day event, ... read more
Tulipmania 2014: In Full Bloom At Gardens By The Bay
After getting busy planting the tulips for Tulipmania at Gardens by the Bay, we were all eager to go back to the Flower Dome to view the tulips in bloom. We took the opportunity over the Good Friday weekend to go view the flowers and we were certainly not disappointed. It was an amazing sight to see tulips of different colours and varieties covering the flower field! It was really so beautiful. Tulips are one of my favourite flowers and I confess: I really wanted to take some home with me. A ... read more
Grease Live In Singapore: It’s Got Groove, It’s Got Meaning!
Summer nights have hit Singapore, and I'm not just referring to the unbelievably hot nights that we've been having recently.I talking about Grease -- the latest musical to open at the MasterCard Theatres at Marina Bay Sands. Having grown up belting out Summer Nights and Hopelessly Devoted To You while playing the Grease soundtrack on repeat, I was really excited to catch the show. And a teensy bit worried. I had the high hopes and expectations that one has when revisiting an old favourite. I ... read more
CITROËN Grand C4 Picasso Review
* Guest post by my husband, DD! Last weekend we were very lucky to be lent the ALL-NEW CITROËN GRAND C4 PICASSO to review. (Woohoo!)We were particularly excited to be test-driving this car as the All-New CITROËN GRAND C4 PICASSO 2014 is an update to the New CITROËN Grand C4 Picasso launched in 2006 which we currently own (and have affectionately named “Pablo”). Apparently, the 2014 release was necessary because the 2006 CITROËN Grand C4 Picasso has been so popular, it’s sold out!Anyway, I ... read more
Easter Thanksgiving
Today I am feeling thankful for... … friends who willingly step up and pitch in. Who saw a need and filled it with their various talents to make our Easter Egg Hunt a truly collaborative effort. … for happy faces and egg and spoon races. For games thoughtfully planned and sportingly undertaken. … for eager little hands that hunted down eggs and filled up their baskets. … for moments shared and friendships made and strengthened. For the opportunity for our children to ... read more
