"Frozen", Disney's latest 3D animated film hits the big screens today. We caught the film in a special media preview earlier last week, and I have to come upfront and say it: it's the BEST Disney animated film I've seen in a while. I grew up on a diet of Disney cartoons, like many of my generation, and I still remember the day my parents told me we were going to watch The Little Mermaid at the cinema. I didn't want to go. Yup, that's right, I wasn't interested. I'd read the story of The Little ... read more
Jamie’s America: Not Just About Burgers {Christmas Giveaway #1}
If you take a look at my cookbook collection, you'll realise that Jamie Oliver keeps popping up.Yes, I'm a fan-girl: guilty as charged. I can't help it. I arrived in the UK for a study stint years ago and was faced with the prospect of having to cook (or buy or beg or steal) to sustain myself. Having ZERO cooking experience under my belt, it was Jamie Oliver The Naked Chef who taught me that cooking could be fun and easy. And oh yes, taste good too. So when a friend first brought my attention to ... read more
Five Priorities This Christmas
Now that we're approaching end-November, there's a tingle in the air that, coupled with the wet weather around us, makes it clear that Christmas is coming!Our tree is up and I'm looking forward to soaking in the festivities, reflecting on the year gone by and celebrating the reason for the season. Christmas is significantly more than just a festive holiday to us as Christians and I appreciate the opportunity to turn our focus to the great gift we have been given with the birth of the Saviour. ... read more
Orientation for the Lil’ Missy
A pre-school milestone of another kind for my other child the week after the kindy year-end concert: Orientation for my little missy.Next year she takes her first steps into formal education, and I'm excited for her. I still remember how, at this time of the year when Noey would have been due to start N1, I hesitated and made the decision not to send him to school in January. A large part of the reason is that, being a year-end baby, we weren't keen to send him off to school when he was barely ... read more
The Kindy Year-End Concert
The highlight of the pre-school calendar, for the parents at least, must surely be the school year-end concert. We've all really enjoyed going for Noey's concerts over the years. When he was in Pre-Nursery, he was a little angel dancing to the tune of Hark the Herald Angels Sing. It was a super cute performance, the sort that is the inevitable result of putting blur little 3-year olds on stage. I still smile when I think about it. Last year, in Nursery, he had his first speaking part. The play ... read more
Serving Up Love on a (New) Plate
This dish is one of our family favourites. It's honey roasted chicken and it's super yummy as the chicken cooks in a pan in its own juices with honey, lemon, garlic and oregano. I serve this with chicken rice and the kids just hoover it up. It is one of the easiest dishes to feed them.However, this post is not about the food, good as it is.(Incidentally, if you're keen to try this recipe, my friend Pam has shared her version of this dish on A Dollop Of Me as part of the Kitchen Exploits Family ... read more
10 Tips for a Great Family Studio Photoshoot {An Orange Studios Review}
Confession: I love having professional photoshoots. You get lovely photos of happy faces, in good lighting with coordinated outfits, What's there not to love, right? So when a photoshoot opportunity came up with Orange Studios, I jumped at the chance. To me it's not just about the kids, but also the fact that finally, one of us doesn't have to be stuck behind the camera (by which I mean my husband) and we'd still have the assurance that the photos will come out well. I also thought it would be a ... read more
Science Centre’s 35th Anniversary Open House
The Science Centre is 35! (So am I, by the way, which is pretty neat, considering that my parents used to bring me to the Science Centre quite a bit as a child. Guess I've really grown along with it!) Anyway, in celebration of the milestone, the Science Centre is having an Open House from 8 to 11 Nov! Which means, yes, free entry to the Science Centre, though the usual admission charges still apply to other gated attractions. This is a great opportunity to visit the Science Centre's ... read more
