Like every family, we have our family favourites when it comes to the dinner table. I have shared a number of these recipes here on this blog, but this week, I'm sharing a new dish on A Dollop of Me: Chicken Cacciatorre! My friend Corsage is running a 10-week long series on Family Favourites for on her blog, featuring 10 different bloggers who would each be sharing a favourite dish. She's right in the middle of it and it's my turn this week! This chicken dish is a hit with the husband and the ... read more
Fearfully and Wonderfully Made
On the eve of Children's Day, a friend tagged me on HeyBaby SG's Facebook Page, asking me to take some time to celebrate the children in my life by noting down up to five unique characteristics of each child. It seemed simple enough. After all, don't I know my kids better than the back of my hand? But the truth was that as I sat, phone in hand, ready to jot down some adjectives about my kids, the first ones that popped into my head were all negative. "Clingy", "Fierce", "Overly-Sensitive", ... read more
On the Cusp of 5
Dear Noey,Even as you turn 5 tomorrow I remember the very day you were born, way back on 2nd October 2008. You were blue and purple and had a layer of fine, oh so fine baby hair all over you. Your eyes were open and alert (little did we know at that time that you hate closing them to sleep, even now), and you gurgled a little baby gurgle when Mummy cradled you to her, to hold you in her arms for the first time. When it was my turn to hold you I could hardly believe that God had given us a little ... read more
The Countdown to the Noah 5 Mission to Outerspace
Been feeling a little stressed, and the reason for that is a not-so-little space mission that I've been preparing for.I'm excited for sure. You know how much I love parties! But I'm also more than a bit nervous as Noey has invited quite a few of his classmates to the party this time round. I agonised over it because I usually have too many kids already! But, well, it is his party after all, so it's only fair he gets to invite some of his friends too. I told him to pick 8 of his classmates ... read more
The Groovy Giraffe: Unbelievably Cheap Books
In this family, we love books and we love reading. New reads are the one thing I just cannot say no to.Aside from the problem of our overly full bookshelves, I am very glad that the children have both developed a love for books. Noey is a total bookworm who is happy to spend time by himself reading. I treasure those moments as it allows me to take a good break! Meips too has, I am glad to say, finally also become interested in books. She's the one who makes me read the same book over and over ... read more
The Tuition Crutch
I read, with an equal sense of horror and fascination, the article in the Straits Times on Monday about top students having tuition, some of them for all their subjects. There were a few things that troubled me greatly.1. That the good students felt that they needed tuition in order to maintain their grades. This, no doubt, is the reason why tuition/enrichment is a nearly $1 billion dollar industry, with more than 90% of school-going students apparently having some form of tuition. I can ... read more
A Date with just Mum and Dad
I must admit that I often feel guilty about the amount of time we spend with Meips -- or rather, not spend. While it is true that she is with me a lot as I go about my daily activities, my attention is frequently focused elsewhere as I run my errands and buy my groceries. Noey is in school for those short precious 3-hours, and then he's home, demanding my attention with homework to complete and piano practice to get through.I am acutely aware of the far that the second child is, in many ways, ... read more

National Geographic’s 50 Greatest Photos at the ArtScience Museum
It's back to school for Noey this week. While I sympathise with students having the back-to-school blues, I can't say that I'm not a teensy-weensy bit glad that we are back to our usual routine this week.Don't get me wrong -- we had an awesome time during the September hols. I was a bit nervous at the start because I wasn't able to sign Noey up for some holiday programmes that I had in mind. (Alas, procrastination struck again and I paid the price.) But I guess I should not have underestimated ... read more
Holding On and Letting Go
There was a time when she would cling tightly to my hand. There's a big scary world out there for her to conquer, and Mummy's hand offered her that extra comfort she neede. Then she takes a step, and another, and yet another. And I start moving my hand away, further and further, till I've fully let go, and she's on her own. Flying solo.It was with much pride and yet some wistfulness that I watched her take her first steps across the balance beam on her own last week. It was just all I could ... read more
