Noey is like me in many ways. He's very much a mini-me, to an extent sometimes that it's a bit freaky. But one way in which he is certainly different from me is his love for drawing and art and craft. I love art and can certainly spend hours looking at and admiring artwork, but put a pencil in my hand and I'm lost. I guess I just don't know how to translate what I see onto paper. Noey on the other hand doesn't have this problem. He loves doodling and it can entertain himself for good lengths of ... read more
He’s 21: Swensen’s Planes Cake + Giveaway
Before I had Noey and Meips, my baby was my brother. Just over a week ago, that baby turned 21. Honestly I never thought I'd see the day! But here it is: my baby brother is officially an adult.Plans for a bigger party had to be shelved as his National Service duties got in the way. Instead, the family got together for a teppanyaki dinner. It's everyone's favourite cuisine, adults and kids alike. But I had a little surprise for him that was a throwback to our childhood: a Swensen's Ice-Cream ... read more
Dinner at SEA at the Ocean Restaurant
Ever since I knew that there was a restaurant within the SEA Aquarium where you could dine while enjoying a full view of the largest tank in the place, I put it on my list of places to try. Of course it's gimmicky, no doubt about that. But I'm a sucker for such things and I figured it was worth trying at least once. DD's birthday presented the perfect opportunity.Even though it was a weekday evening, I decided not to risk it and booked a table about two weeks before at Ocean Restaurant by Cat ... read more
A Birthday at SEA
It's always birthdays galore for us come August.Actually the celebrations start a little earlier at the end of July with my Dad's birthday, then extend past National Day for my brother and DD. This year, for DD's birthday, I decided to book us dinner at Ocean Restaurant in the the SEA Aquarium at RWS. My dear husband loves aquariums and I thought that being able to dine while watching the fish swimming by would be a treat for him. And yes, for Noey, Meips and I too.Since we have annual passes to ... read more
Chicken in Milk (with Greenfields)
I don't know about your kids, but my two have never been huge fans of milk. I don't think it was so much the milk per se, but more the fact that they are just not big drinkers. Even now, Meips only drinks barely 160ml per day, three times a day. And that's on good days. While milk is not their primary source of nutrition now as a toddler and pre-schooler, I still like to incorporate some milk and dairy into their meals to ensure that they are getting enough calcium in their diet. So apart from a ... read more
Swensen’s: Same-Same but Different
Swensen's is one of those places that has etched itself a place in my memories of my growing years. In my childhood, there were the set lunches after church, the Crunchie cones, the sundaes in oversized frosted cups, and the ice-cream cakes on certain special birthdays. In my teens, there were the EARTHQUAKES. I used to run competitively during my school days and Swensen's was always our default destination after a major race. A big group of us would descend on the restaurant, and yes, we would ... read more
Essential Eames at the ArtScience Museum
Charles and Ray Eames. Their names might not be familiar to those who are not in the creative line. But you'll probably still recognise these:Hello sexy chairs! The fact that these chairs have been widely copied reflects the pure genius of Charles and Ray Eames, who came up with the original version in 1950, then the world's first industrially produced plastic chair. You can see these and more at the ArtScience Museum, which is currently playing host to the Essential Eames: A Herman Miller ... read more
NDP 2013 in the Park
This National Day we did something a little different and stepped out of the house to catch the fireworks and aerial display. If you know my husband, you'd know that he's EXTREMELY crowd-adverse, so going out there to jostle with everyone else is not his idea of a good time. But our friends suggested a picnic at a nice spot and I guess the hubby decided that it was worth the risk. It worked out really well and everyone had a great time. There was good food, good company, and space for the ... read more
To the Cinema We Go!
It was a day I'd been looking forward to for a long time -- the day I would step into the quiet, darkened halls of the movie theatre, with both my kids to boot.I think I can count on one hand the number of movies I've watched at the cinemas since Noey was born. DD and I celebrated each occasion like a victory. You might know that Noey hardly watched any TV before he turned two. It was something I was quite glad about but honestly, it wasn't that I didn't want him to watch any TV at all. I think ... read more
Singing It Right
You know how it is that you don't realise you'd miss something until you realise that you'd probably heard it for the last time? That's how I felt when last Wednesday, I heard Meips sing "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" correctly for the first time. You see, for the longest time she's been singing the 3rd line as "Up above the ser world high". At least as the second-time parents that we are, while we did sing it correctly when joining in, we didn't make her correct it. Because it was cute, and ... read more
