My dear Noey, my beautiful son,You stand on the cusp of turning 4 years of age, your birthday being just over a month away. You have grown up a lot since we moved into the second half of the year. You've matured and grown, and you're a little boy now. No longer a baby or a toddler but a proper boy in your own right. I know you can't wait to finally be FOUR, just like the rest of your classmates. It probably can't come soon enough.Your Mummy here though can't quite believe that you're almost ... read more
Marmalade Pantry by the Stables
Marmalade Pantry is one of those places that I keep going back to.I remember afternoons when my friends and I would meet at their old location at Palais Renaissance to have their Crabmeat Linguine and share their sinfully delicious Sticky Date Pudding. And the afternoons when we would treat ourselves to the same thing for lunch over at Raffles Place where they had an branch for a period of time. Those were also the days when my colleagues would pop down to Toast (also part of the Marmalade ... read more
It’s a Sick-fest Here!
The sickness convention has been going on all week in our household and it hasn't been fun.It started with the husband coming down with flu towards the end of last week. He had a raging fever and was floored for two days. Then, as he was recovering over the weekend, both kids came down with flu symptoms. Noey managed to fight it off, beating his fever in two days, but Naomi has been hit quite bad. We had to zip her down to KKH A&E on Monday to see a doctor because it being a public holiday, ... read more
Exploring Upper Pierce
Living in a concrete jungle here in our fast-paced highly urbanised city, it is a real pleasure to find quiet, pockets of greenery. When we came upon this lovely spot, I almost couldn't believe it was Singapore. There is a beautiful serenity about the place that is Upper Pierce Reservoir. Back when we used to travel along Upper Thomson Road on-route to and from church, my parents used to stop by the reservoir occasionally for a walk or a picnic lunch. It's been years since then though, and I had ... read more
Baking for Papa
We celebrated the husband's birthday with a meal with his family on Sunday, and the pièce de résistance that night was the birthday cake that Noey baked for his Papa.Yes, you heard that right. Noey baked the birthday cake.I was trying to think of something that the kids could do or make for their Dad when I remembered a recipe that I had read before. It wasn't in a cookbook. No, this was the recipe for Gâteau au Yaourt (Yoghurt Cake) that can be found in Bringing Up Bébé by Pamela Druckerman. If ... read more
Goodbye, London 2012
The London Olympics drew to a close this weekend and I'm sorry to see it end. It has been a fascinating two weeks. I wasn't too interested before it began, but as usual, once the action started, the sports fan in me was totally sucked in. It was the first Olympics ever for the two kids - Noey was still in utero during the Beijing 2008 games - and I sat down with them every evening to watch the highlights for the day. And as I did so, I was reminded of how this is a tradition that my father ... read more
Spinach and Bacon Crustless Quiche
I'll be honest - Breakfast is probably my least favourite meal of the day. Waking up for breakfast means having less time to sleep-in in the mornings, and as you can imagine, between getting extra sleep and some food, sleep usually wins. Then the kids came along and suddenly all that information that I'd pushed to be back of my mind about breakfast being the most important meal of the day started flooding back in uncomfortable clarity. I started planning breakfast for my two kids and finding it ... read more
Istana Open House
It felt particularly apt to be visiting the Istana on its Open House Day the weekend before National Day. I've been meaning to go for an Open House for ages now, so when Delphine alerted me to the fact that it was happening last Sunday, I promptly put it on our calendar. I haven't been to the Istana for a long time (possibly since my age was a single digit!) while DD and the kids have not been before so we were all pretty excited. And since it was a Sunday, we decided we might as well make a ... read more
Sports and Singapore Songs at the Little Olympics
In the midst of the 2012 Olympics in London - and days after Feng Tianwei's historic bronze medal in the table tennis singles - Noey here had a little olympic activity of his own.As part of his kindy's National Day celebrations, they held a Little Olympics meet for students and family. This is the 3rd year running that they've had this event. What started as the K2 project in 2010 (then inspired by the Youth Olympics that were held in Singapore) has grown into a new school tradition. This is ... read more
Siem Reap 2012: Angkor Thom
When in Siem Reap, you go see the temples. And that's what we did.We woke up bright and early at 6.45am in the morning to get an early start on our first morning there, ready for our temple adventure. Waking up at 6+am in the morning wasn't as scary as it sounds because Singapore is, conveniently, 1 hour ahead of Cambodia. SInce my body is used to being woken up by the kids between 7-7.30am Singapore time (6-6.30am Cambodian time) everyday anyway, the early start was a snap.Annoyingly, I ... read more
