It was my birthday last Thursday on the last day of May.I will leave the usual reflective birthday post for another day. (Or not, if I never get round to it.) This post is about my present. This year, I decided to go geek and asked D for a new laptop -- my first EVER Mac.Hello, Macbook Pro!This was the laptop that I nearly got the last time, but which I decided against because it was too expensive. That was before I got my iPhone. The phone was my first Apple product, and given that I love it so ... read more
He’s Lightning McQueen!
The last day of the school term is Character Parade Day at Noey's school. What is that, you ask? It's a day where the children are to go to school dressed in a costume of their favourite storybook character, and the costume has to be made out of recycled materials.I would have just thrown something together and called it a day, except that I'd seen photos of the previous edition of the Character Parade held last year and realised that parents really do make the effort for this day. And since I'm ... read more
Top 10
If you had flipped through Today on Friday, you might have noticed a familiar little face in an ad on page 59:Yup, there in the top right corner is Naomi!I did it again, I must admit. I signed Naomi up for another baby contest. (Only this one and no other. Yet.) Riding on the feeling of a missed chance from the previous baby contest, I saw the call for entries and thought: Why not? The top prize of $2,000 and a 1-year baby modelling contract with Carrefour was certainly attractive! I ... read more
International Museum Day at the RMBR
Children's Season 2012 has kicked off! This is honestly my favourite time of the year because there are so many fun activities being held for kids. It's a great time to bring them out and let them get to know the museums, and think of them as fun places. This year's opening weekend coincided with International Museum Day on 19 May, where participating museums held Open Houses, with free entry and special programmes being organised. Being spoilt for choice, I plumped for the Raffles Museum for ... read more
It is the Best Job in the World, It is the Worst Job in the World
Being a Mummy means:* Opting to celebrate Mother's Day with a picnic in the park because you think the kids might enjoy it better, instead of celebrating some way you might enjoy better, like at a chi-chi high tea.* Ordering Hawaiian Pizza and Penne Bolognaise for dinner because you know they'll be a hit with the kids.* Feeding hungry little mouths first before having your dinner.* Having all the pineapple on your piece of pizza happily picked off by your son. And not really minding it. Mostly.* ... read more
Our Music Studio Trial
If you've been on the hunt for a music and movement programme for little ones, you might have realised that Kindermusik is no more. I had been bringing Naomi for Kindermusik class since the start of the year and was surprised when I was informed at the start of our 2nd term that the franchise was not going to be renewed at the end of April. Instead, the teachers have banded together to start their own programme under a new name: Our Music Studio. I was told that it would be based on ... read more
Disconnecting from the Connected World
My iPad and iPhone. They are both a boon and a bane.I don't deny it -- I love my iDevices. I know that maternity this second time round was not as isolating an experience as it was the first time because I had adult conversation at my fingertips. Whatsapp, e-mails, twitter and facebook kept me in touch with my friends and in tune with what was going on outside our four walls. I could check in when I wanted and find conversation. I could read the news and friends' blogs. And yes, I could also ... read more
To My Mummy This Mother’s Day
It has taken becoming a Mum to make me appreciate my Mother. My mum and I, we have a complex relationship. We can get on like a house on fire, but we can also have moments when we just don't understand each other at all. I think it stems from the fact that my Mum and I are very similar in character and personality, but hold to a very different set of values. She thinks it's a generation gap. We're probably both right. But even as we continue to have our differences, I have never doubted that my ... read more
What Car Is That?
Boys, they like to draw cars. My son? He likes to draw their badges.Look Mummy! Citroen!Noey has always loved his cars. As a little(r) tot, rolling his cars along the bed/sofa was an activity that could keep him occupied for a full 20 mins, all by himself. Even now, he still loves carrying one or two around with him wherever he goes. He adores watching F1.So I shouldn't have been surprised when he started learning the badges of the different cars he spied on the road. It started with the cars we ... read more
14th Month Notes
My babies seem to hit cognitive growth spurts every 6 months. I observed this with Noey and it seems to be the case with Nomi as well. After she turned 1 about 2 months ago, Nomi seems to have grown up a lot.Supermodel MeShe's practically running everywhere these days. She's gotten pretty steady over the last month and when she thinks Gor-Gor is on her tail, she shrieks with delight, pulls up her shoulders and throws herself forward as fast as her legs can carry her. It's very cute and I believe ... read more
