On our way back from Umina to Sydney, we made a stop by the Australian Reptile Park. This park was well-rated in the reviews I had read online and it was therefore one of the must-gos on my itinerary.Unfortunately, the weather was wet and cold on the day we wanted to go. It continued to be wet and rainy for the rest of the time we were in Australia so it was not as if it would have made a difference if we went another day anyway. The sky was grey and it was threatening to pour when we arrived, ... read more
Sydney 2011: Activities at OBHP and around Umina
As I mentioned in my previous post, there were a few factors that drew me to Ocean Beach Holiday Park. First, there was it's oceanfront location. Second, were the family friendly facilities and third, the kids club programme which they ran over the weekend. I was glad to find, after we'd arrived that, everything was as advertised. Maybe except for the heated pool. Ok, it was heated, but not nearly enough to actually be warm. Then again, I have this issue with most purportedly heated pools! We ... read more
Sydney 2011: Ocean Beach Holiday Park
We usually base ourselves at my in-laws' place when we head over to Sydney. However, we also like to try to make a holiday of it by going for a road-trip together with the grandparents too.Last year we drove up to Port Stephens for 2 nights and Noey enjoyed all the beach time that he got, while we had a whale of a time, well, whale watching. (Yes, I'm corny like that. Sorry.)This time we drove out to Ocean Beach Holiday Park, a holiday resort in Umina in the Central Coast. When it was ... read more
Sydney 2011: Flying with 2 Kids
It recently occurred to me that I have yet to blog about our Dec 2011 trip to Sydney. Not that that's surprising for me though. Hah. I barely get round to blogging about holidays because I get overwhelmed by the number of photos we have, and there's daily life of course, which gets in the way. The sad thing is that the better the holiday, the less likely I am to write about it because there would be too much to tell! This is a terrible state of affairs.Anyway, here is my attempt to reverse this ... read more
Port of Lost Wonder
By now I'm sure you've heard of the latest attraction to open on Sentosa - Port of Lost Wonder. (POLW)We were just wondering when it was going to open about a month ago when we tramped past the hoardings at Sentosa. So I was very excited when I heard news of its opening. Imagine my delight when I managed to score tickets for the whole family to the opening preview on 14 Apr!We even decided to make a staycation of it, at the spur of the moment, and booked ourselves a room for the weekend at Rasa ... read more
Lunch: Char Siew Noodles
Char Siew Noodles -- with homemade char siew -- is a relatively new dish that has made it into our lunch menu. I love char siew and I love making my own, even though it is so readily available in Singapore, because it just tastes best fresh out of the oven. Juicy and not dry, with tasty charred bits. Delicious.I discovered a particularly yummy recipe for char siew at Rasamalaysia.com and this is the recipe I've been basing my char siew on. I've made a few modifications, mainly because I am ... read more
On the Journey to Reading
We were out for tea with my Mum one afternoon a couple of months back when we walked past some movie posters."Look, Noey," said my Mum, drawing his attention to the nearest poster. She pointed at the first word. "What word is that? M-A-N," she said, sounding out each of the letters to the word."Man!" said Noey. "On a ledge," he said, reading the rest of the words. My Mum looked at me, surprised. I shrugged. I was just as surprised that he could read the word "ledge"."How do you know that word is ... read more
The Green Living Workshop
Remember the Green Living Workshop?I managed to attend the session held at Smitten in March and was very glad that I had squeezed out the time for it. Delphinia of Four Cow Farm and Militza of Little Green Dot, who together conducted the session, were both clearly very passionate about the subject at hand. It was inspiring listening to them as they sought to share the wealth of their knowledge with us that morning. The two big thrusts of their message: (1) There are far too many cleaning products ... read more
Egg Hunt: Naomi Meets Chocolate
We had a very, very busy Easter weekend. With two Easter parties and egg hunts, two birthday celebrations, a home visitation, a family dinner and church, it was hectic for us alright! Whew. The kids and I are staying in today just to catch our breath and recover. We kicked off Friday with the annual Tan family Easter Egg Hunt on Good Friday. Yes, we skip ahead to celebrating the resurrection together with the crucifixion! This was Noey's 4th Egg Hunt (I realise I didn't post pictures last ... read more
Me, the SAHM
I looked at the date a couple of days ago and realised that it's been 5 months since start my stay-at-home-mom gig. Wow, time has just flown by.How am I doing? That's a good question. I think my husband, who knows my great need to connect with people on a regular basis, was recently a bit worried about me and kept asking if I was getting bored at home. "I am definitely not bored," I told him. "There's hardly time to be bored around here!"I had a busy few months after I stopped work (or more ... read more
