Happy 10 months little Meips! This has been a big month for you. I thought I wouldn't have much to update, seeing as I was SO LATE with the last one, but you're really at that stage where you just change and grow everyday. I had forgotten how much fun it is at this stage with Noey and I'm now truly grateful that I get to spend this time at home with you. So, some of the highlights of your development this month are:1. You can stand unsupported for a long time."Look Ma, no hands!"You are now very ... read more
Enter the Dragon with Elly
Do you feel like Chinese New Year is way too early this year? I certainly do. I feel like I've barely caught my breath with Christmas and New Year just over and wham! It's time to prep for Chinese New Year?Aside from getting the goodies, one of the traditions I like and adhere to is the getting of new clothes for the occasion. Yes, yes, I embrace any excuse to shop! And this year is extra fun because I have little Naomi to dress. You all know I'm a fan of the line of clothing from Elly, and this ... read more
Teeth!
I haz teeth! At 9.5, almost 10 months, Naomi's teeth finally made an appearance. Two itty-bitty tooth buds, which might explain a period of bad sleep preceding this. At least, I would like to think so! The bad news is that she's sticking her fingers into her mouth again and drooling, so we are expecting the top two incisors to show up. I can already feel one just under the gum. As a breastfeeding mum, I must say I was a bit sorry to see her teeth. She has nipped me a couple of times, which I was ... read more
Dreams and Reality @ NMS
I finally, finally managed to bring Noey and Nomi to check out the Dreams and Reality exhibition at the National Museum in the last week of December.I have been meaning to go since November last year but somehow just never found the opportunity. So when there was a lull in our timetable after Christmas, I bundled Noey and Nomi both into the car after lunch and headed for the museum. I was pleasantly surprised on arriving to find that there was a long line to buy tickets. Since when were museums ... read more
It’s Back To School
"Everyone and their mothers are in school right now", read a friend's status update on Facebook.Indeed, that was the case in our household. 3 Jan was back to school day. I had been preparing Noey over the past week for the fact that he would be starting school again and he was pretty nonchalant about it. Till the morning on the first day when he kicked up a big fuss when I tried to change him into his school uniform. 'Twas a good thing I had decided to start changing him early that ... read more
Hello 2012!
This year, 2012 rolled on in with little fanfare in the Ong household. Except for DD, the rest of us were all asleep! At least we had an interesting day. We met Sophie and Zoe for a walk/run in the park before coming back to our place for dinner. I whipped up Udon Soup for the kids and Yaki Udon for the adults. They were both huge hits, for which I was thankful. Noey even ate the whole bowl of Udon by himself and Sophie and Zoe cleaned out their bowls. I love this Yaki Udon, based on the recipe ... read more
Goodbye 2011
It's time for the annual recap! A little late this time because I've been really tired and keep falling asleep before I finish, but 2011 has to be given it's due before the chapter is closed.1. Where did you ring in 2011?At home, just DD and I and the TV. And a tipple.2. Did you keep your New Years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?I had a general goal to try to love more, which I think I did, except in respect of my Christian walk. I think that has really taken a slump over the ... read more
High Jinks on Christmas Day
Christmas morning was double the fun with Naomi joining in for the first time! Not that she really knew what was going on. She got distracted by all the string, wrappers and boxes while Noey, wiser now, zoomed in on the real deal. "It's Christmas!" I told him when I went to wake him up, and it was enough to get him out of bed and to the present heap.It was the first time in a long while that we were opening presents all on our own on Christmas morning. Since my parents were away and my sibs had ... read more
My Christmas Eve Feast
One of the things I look forward to every Christmas is our Christmas family meal. Usually I share this task with my Mum, each of us preparing some of the dishes for the spread for the whole family. This year, for the first time ever, my parents were on holiday over the Christmas break. I couldn't imagine not having Chirstmas dinner at home, so I decided that I was going to cook the whole meal instead. And I invited my Aunt and my in-laws to join us and my siblings, so including my Mum's and my ... read more
Cookies for Christmas
I don't know about you, but Christmas is possibly my very favourite time of the year. Aside from the good food, it is the opportunity to wind down, spend time with family and friends, and reflect on the season that I love. With Noey a little older this year and with me being at home, I thought it would be nice for us to make some cookies to give to our neighbours and hosts of parties that we would be attending as a little token of thanks from us. Knowing my limitations -- I really am not a baker ... read more
