Tang Yuan and Thankfulness
In celebration of 冬至 yesterday, it was 汤圆 for dessert for us 3 yesterday. With soup for us parents and just loads of peanuts for Noey.I had only come to learn of the tradition of marking 冬至 a couple of years ago from some friends. My parents have never celebrated it. I think DD's mum does make them 汤圆 on the day but he never knew why! I like the idea though of the day where the family comes together to pay homage to the year gone by, and have 汤圆 as a symbol of reunion. Sort of like a Chinese ... read more
Advent in Our Home
FOUR days till Christmas! Are you well and truly in the mood yet? These past few weeks have been a mad rush for me, no thanks to the fact that we came back from Sydney with 2 weeks to Christmas. In between meet-ups, parties and concerts, we managed to get the tree up. Or rather, I managed to get the tree up, no thanks to my helpers who kept disappearing with the ornaments. This year I also decided to try something new. With Noey old enough to understand more of the meaning behind ... read more
9 Months Young
My dearest Meips,You're 9 months old! Already! By the time I post this update, you'll be more than 9.5 months old, but at least this month, I can blame the lateness of this update in part on the fact that we made a trip to Sydney to visit your Ah Kong and Granny at the tail-end of the month. It was your first trip and while you were mostly your obliging self, I can't deny that it was tricky travelling with both you and Noey together. Still, we would never have left you behind. I got to ... read more
We’re Back!
It's been quiet on this blog because we've been on holiday! We took a deep breath and went down under to Sydney with two kids in tow. Naomi's first trip overseas! And... it was challenging. It certainly didn't help that the weather was rather cold, gloomy and it rained on a couple of days. We heard on the radio that it was the coldest start to Summer in 44 years!Thank God we had ready and willing help in the form of family over in Australia or we might not have had any kind of a break at ... read more
Dinosaurs-Live!
It was a much awaited outing -- the trip with YK and YY to check out the dinosuars "live" at the Science Centre.Noey has been interested in dinosaurs ever since we went to the really excellent exhibiton at the Australian Museum in Sydney last year. (I realise I totally ran out of steam before I got round to blogging about it, which was a pity because it was really one of the highlights of the trip.) So when I heard that the Science Centre was going to be bringing in more than 50 live-sized ... read more
Elephants on the Loose
Elephants on parade at Raffles Place.Have you been spotting the elephants on the loose around town? The Elephant Parade has come to our shores. While we didn't set out specifically on an elephant hunt, we have been coming across these guys around town. 2 at the Botanic Gardens, 2 at Fort Canning, and a whole bunch at Raffles Place. It's like a pleasant surprise -- you'll never know when you'll come across an elephant in your path! Noey has taken to the Ellie's we chance on real well, happily ... read more
School’s Out!
And just like that, we've come to the end of the school year.Noey came down with a mysterious fever (another one!) early in the week and had to miss a couple of days of school. I felt kind of sorry for him that he couldn't go for the gym trip with his class, but at least he made it back for the last day of term, where they had waterplay day and a combined class party.Looking back at the last two terms, I can see that school has been good for him. As a result of a combination of his age and the ... read more
Abrakadoodling
After the trial at Art Bug, Art Class #2 for Noey was at Abrakadoodle last week.I had heard positive reviews of the place from different friends so I was interested to check it out. The fact that it is conveniently sited near my place was also a big plus.Noey was happy enough to go after I explained to him that it was a different class from the one he went to previously. I think school has really helped him be more independent. It was a full class of 8 kids and while he was a bit hesitant ... read more
Published!
About a week ago, this arrived in the mail: My blog book! Volume 1.I have been meaning to print out a hard copy of my blog for some time. Call it paranoia but it's always there at the back of my mind that one day Blogger might just disappear, taking with it all my posts. There was a time when I used to regularly PDF all my posts as backup, till I got lazy and stopped doing it.I was mighty pleased when I came across Blog2Print. I had investigated several other different methods of getting my ... read more
