I don't know about you, but I remember loving the Science Centre as a kid. What can I say? I'm a geek through and through.(Ok, maybe it was also the fact that I got to have McDonald's after every visit.)Considering that, it's funny that till last Friday, I hadn't brought Noey to the Science Centre before. Thanks to the kind folks of the Singapore Science Centre however, I got to rectify that and bring him not only to the Science Centre but also to the Omni-Theater AND to check out the latest ... read more
Re-Kindling an Interest in Books
For my recent birthday, I decided to go tech.(This is in part due to the fact that DD refuses to buy me bags as presents. Tsk tsk.)Unable to decide between a Kindle and an iPad2, DD told me to get both. Hee. My Kindle just arrived and I'm loving it. It is a specialist reading device and I can't get over the fact that the screen really looks like paper! I don't like reading off backlit screens and am one of those people who needs to print documents for reading at the office. That was the one ... read more
The Cleebo Clean
My husband and I always have a lot of fun looking at our 2 kids and trying to identify the source of their physical and character traits.Naomi has certainly inherited his sensitive nose. The slightest changes in temperature will cause her to sneeze, often 2-3 times in a row. I have also noticed that she tends to sound wheezy in the middle of the night and in have a clogged nose in the morning when she awakens. As a result of this, her nose, especially in the early days, seemed permanently dirty. ... read more
School’s Starting? Already?
Yesterday evening, it hit me that Noey would be starting school in 2 weeks when the new school term opens. 2 weeks! Yikes! I am not mentally prepared! He's still a baby, my baby! The thought threw me into a bit of a tailspin for the rest of the evening and I spent the time trying to make the most of the time with him. (I am sentimental and melodramatic like that.) I chased him into the bathroom for his shower and when he sounded his usual request: "Mummy, sit down and watch Noey!", I didn't say ... read more
Cut From The Same Cloth
At the ripe old age of 3 months, Naomi already has too many clothes! On top of the bags of hand-me-downs that she got from 3 dear friends of mine, she's also got quite a stash of her brother's more unisex clothing that I continue to dress her in.Last weekend, she grew big enough to fit into this super-loud penguin onesie that DD bought for Noey ages ago that I probably would never have picked in a million years. DD loves it though, so I hung on to it and decided to pop Naomi into it to make him ... read more
Art Garden at the Singapore Art Museum
It was off to the Singapore Art Museum for the Art Garden on Tuesday!I had been looking forward to this outing with the rest of the Oct Babies. It's been so long since we last managed to get everybody together. We didn't manage to catch the Art Garden during last year's edition (which was very well-received) so I was very interested to see this year's installations. So was Noey. "Noey can do Art," he said knowledgeably when I informed him of our destination for the day.I'm glad that it didn't ... read more
3 Months Old
Dear little Nomi,You're 3 months old! (+ 1 week. Your Mummy is late as usual.) That's a whole trimester in a pregnancy. Those first 3 months of a pregnancy are challenging -- your body battles tiredness and morning sickness generally rears its ugly head. Then once those first 3 months are over, your body gets used to it, everything stabilises and you get into a groove. It's been the same story with the first 3 months of your life that have passed. Mummy here has gotten used to the tiredness and ... read more
Lunch: Charbeck Mee Sua
One of the bad things about being at home is the fact that I get very bored with eating the same food at home day in day out. The good thing that comes out of that is that it gets me off my butt and gets me hunting down new recipes to try.My husband would tell you that my western meals are much, much better than my Chinese food. Partly because having grown up on my Teochew grandmother's cooking, I like cheng soups and steamed food. Especially steamed fish. The husband? Not such a fan of what he ... read more
The Playdome at the National Museum
While Noey doesn't attend school just yet, I love the school holidays because a whole host of kid-friendly activities will spring up around the island. One of the events which I have been waiting for is Children's Season organised by the National Heritage Board and Museum Roundtable. This year's edition will run from 14 May to 31 July 2011.A couple of weeks ago, shortly after it started, we went to check out Playdome at the National Museum with Kate on a Wednesday morning. Messing around with ... read more
Noddy!
Noey has a little set of Noddy look-and-learn books that my Father-in-law got for him in Sydney, at DD's suggestion. DD loves Noddy, the series being the books that inspired his love for reading. He'd been telling me to get them for Noey, but they can no longer be found in bookshops here these days.So when I got a mailer from Book Depository some time back informing of a 10% off everything sale, I decided to search for Noddy, and to my delight, they did carry some of the books. I promptly put in ... read more
