It’s January, which means it’s time for KidsFest 2016! This annual series of quality theatre performances is a real treat that I personally look forward to. Year after year, ABA Productions, the team behind KidsFest, manages to bring in great shows, many of which are based on popular children’s literature. In fact, many of these, like The Gruffalo in 2015 (review here) and What The Ladybird Heard in 2014 (review here) have been family favourites which we have on our bookshelves. This ... read more
Levelling Up Our Ninja Skills: Tag Team @ Downtown East {Giveaway}
It’s a brand new school year! Now two weeks in, the adrenaline has worn off for me and the kids, and we’re all starting to feel the pain of the early start to the day that school brings again. We are still feeling our way around our new schedule and one of the things I hope to achieve is to give my children more play time this year. With the extra workload and hours that come with Primary school, I found myself constantly nagging at my kids to DO WORK and PRACTICE PIANO last year. It was ... read more
Looking Back At 2015, Looking Forward
I spent the last day of 2015 struggling to keep my eyes open. Pretty apt considering this is how I felt on most days over this particular year. In all honesty, I’m glad to see the back of 2015. It was not a great year on most counts as it was, for me, a year of lost time and health issues. Not health issues for me personally, though I got sick a bit more than I would have liked. But I lost an uncle, a dear old neighbour and a friend over the course of the year, all of whom I grieved for. As a ... read more
A Touch of Christmas Magic… with Some Help from IKEA!
Christmas is my favourite time of the year. It is a time to slow down, take stock, gather the family and reconnect with old friends. It gives me great joy to dress up the house, cook up a storm and celebrate the season with those I love. And part of what makes it special is that I get to do it together with my kids, who are home for the holidays. Except. This year we travelled to Sydney for a family wedding in the middle of December which saw us returning just three days before Christmas. ... read more
That’s Christmas To Me
It's been a busy few days as we arrived back in Singapore from Sydney a couple of days ago right into the Christmas rush. I've been shopping and wrapping, planning and cooking, and seriously stressing. I totally underestimated how tired I'd feel after our holiday and how much needs to be done before hosting two parties at our place this Christmas weekend. I've all but ignored my children since we came back and left them to their own devices while I sort out what needs to be done. Mummy-guilt ... read more
Legoland Malaysia’s Christmas Holiday Extravaganza
There’s no Christmas like a Lego Christmas! Santa Claus is coming to Legoland! It was certainly Christmas come early for my kids when I surprised them on the last day of school with the news that we were heading to Legoland Malaysia for an afternoon of fun. They were ecstatic, naturally. My kids have grown up with Legoland, as we try to make the trip across the Second Link every once in a while, and I can quite literally mark the passage of time against their favourite rides, which change as ... read more
Taylor Swift’s 1989 World Tour in Singapore
I had 7 November in my calendar for a long time because it was the day of Mei’s annual kindergarten concert. As far as I was concerned, it was the only concert on my agenda for the day… until I received a call from my sister around noon that very day. “Do you want to go for Taylor Swift with me tonight?” she asked. Wow, would I! It turned out that my brother-in-law was ill, stuck in bed and in no shape to go and enjoy the concert. So my sister decided to ask me to take his ticket and go ... read more
Dear Santa Is Coming To Town!
You better watch out, You better not cry, You better not pout, I’m telling you why, Santa Claus is coming to town! And Santa did pop into town early this week and invited us to a very special tea session! With Christmas crafts, stories, singing and delicious cakes (for the mummies, ahem), we certainly savoured this early touch of Christmas magic! Adam showing Mei his handiwork. Our little miss nearly fell asleep during the cab ride there and was a bit out of sorts on arrival but meeting ... read more
Mall Shows Galore this December!
’Tis the season again for… mall shows! I’m not really a mall show stalker myself — I admit it, the crowds scare me! — but on the few occasions that I’ve brought the children down to catch one, they have always enjoyed the experience. For me, the priceless moment comes when I see their eyes light up in recognition when their favourite characters take to the stage! That was why I dragged the kids (and their Godsisters) down to Square 2 just before the school holiday started when I heard that ... read more
My Favourite Christmas at Cold Storage
Ever since the Christmas lights started going up around town (in late Oct!) the kids have been buzzing with the fact that Christmas is coming. When you ask them what they love best about Christmas, the answers come fast and furious. “Christmas presents!” declares Noey immediately. “The Christmas lights!” says Mei excitedly. There are many things I love about Christmas. Not the least the opportunity to share the wonderful message of Christ with those around me. As my home fills with ... read more
