It's been a wet wet weekend. I can't believe it's still raining as I write this!To be honest, I am really enjoying this wet spell. The cool weather is a welcome break from the heat, especially when I'm really hot all the time now, no thanks to the bun in the oven. I find myself lying on top of the covers, sweating away while DD is huddled under blankets at night. Hah. My days of being constantly cold seem to have taken flight since Noey's baby bump days and have never returned!Being stuck ... read more
Baby Bonanza!
Baby season is upon us! I know the talk in the papers recently has been about the declining birth rate but from my perspective, it has been babies galore! Only this week, I received news on Tues that WH's little Emily had arrived. (She's always giving birth just ahead of me!)Then on Thurs, 2 friends welcomed little babies into this world. We were all waiting in eager anticipation of the arrival of Candice's little Thaddeus, but unexpectedly, Yvonne's little Natalie decided to make her big ... read more
Swing, Little Monkey, Swing!
It's been a while since I've brought Noey to a play gym. They are fun, but since Noey is perfectly happy with free activities (like the park and playground), I saw no reason to spend money bringing him to one. Besides, following him through the tunnels and down the slides is tiring! So Noey totally enjoyed himself when we got to visit Little O'Zone when we went to attend little Elijah's birthday party. He charged into the play area and never looked back. Delighted with the balls which you get to ... read more
Big Box of Fun
What do you do when you spot a big box?Move in, of course!RAAAAAARRRR!!The simple joys of simple pleasures. On days like this, I wonder: why bother buying toys? This box is Noey's flower shop, a cubby hole, a canvas for crayon drawings. And a favourite hide-and-seek and peekaboo spot. Now if only he'll stop asking big bellied Mummy to get in with him! "Hey, where did everyone go??" ... read more
34 Weeks
We are ever drawing closer to D-Day and it is certainly telling in the aches and pains I'm suffering!34 weeks and I'm really getting huge.We went for my 34-week check-up yesterday, and I'm glad that everything seems normal. Normal is good, I say. I've put on 2.2kg in 2 weeks (Yikes!) and Baby Girl weighed in at 2.4kg, up from the 1.8kg just 2 weeks ago. DD says Baby Girl is filling up on melon seeds. I shot him a reproachful look for that comment, but I guess if you've ever seen me demolishing a ... read more
Preparing for CNY
I was hoping to escape the CNY run-around this year with my big bellied excuse, but sadly I don't think that is going to happen. One day I hope to be able to use the 2 day public holiday to take a real break somewhere far away. Something tells me it'll be a long time before I'm allowed to do that!At least this year I've resisted all attempts by the parents to foist CNY goodies on me. Too often I get stuff which we don't touch only for me to throw them away months down the road. I've come to ... read more
Pre-School Previews
Going on kindy tours has been tiring work, especially when you're traipsing around with a big belly in tow! I was all confused by all the choices that were available when I started out looking. What was the difference between centres classified as childcares or kindergartens? Did I want a Montessori Programme? If not, what are the other regular programmes anyway? What is in the curriculum? (And did it make a difference to me?) What are the hours like? The teacher-student ratio? What facilities ... read more
More Noey-isms
When Noey woke up from his nap one afternoon about a week ago, I realised to my dismay, that there was a smell of poop emanating from him. I don't know if he fell asleep with poop in his diaper (he still wears one during naps which I think might last longer than 1.5hrs) or whether he'd just done it when he woke up. Whatever the case, I realised that my hopes of getting him back to sleep for longer were shot."Noey," I said reproachfully, "you're smelly!"He grinned. "Noey smells like a baby!" he ... read more
On Being a Mother, Chinese or Not
So much has been said and discussed about Amy Chua's article on her "Chinese" way of parenting since it has been published. I've had friends vehemently opposed to what was written, and those who have voiced support for such an approach. I personally think that what was written has probably been sensationalised to publicize her upcoming book so I took it with a pinch of salt.I had many thoughts when I first read the article and it has led me to reflect deeply on how I was brought up, the value my ... read more
Being Popular ≠ Right To Be Rude
Kids Noey's age have started trotting off to Pre-Nursery these past couple of weeks. And even though Noey isn't one of them, I have been all to my ears in kindy information as I kick start my kindy research and tours to try and find THE ONE for Noey when he starts Nursery next year.I stuck to my personal preferences of not starting him in Jan this year with his cohort, but I realised that schools which do not practice year-round open registration frequently open their registration for the ... read more
