So, Mothers’ Day. How did yours go?
This year, I celebrated my 6th Mothers’ Day, but it was the first year that I received plenty of cards from my kids that they made of their own accord. This was spearheaded by my little card-making guru Mei. She has recently become quite obsessed with drawing and colouring, and was therefore thrilled to spend her time making cards for me for “happy mothers’ day”, as she called it. In the process, she’s now learnt to spell “THANK YOU” and “LOVE YOU” all on her own, which warms the cockles of my mummy heart.
Not to be outdone, Noey drew a card or two for me too. Most precious to me were the messages in the little cards they had drawn. Mei’s was a rather cryptic “Thank Mummy food for helping me grow” (She translated this for me as “thank you Mummy for giving me food that helps me grow”) while Noey’s was a simple but powerful “Thank you for caring about me.”
But the gift that won my heart was a set of vouchers Noey made. How I laughed to see that of all the things that he chose to bestow me, he decided to promise me that he would play his piano with good attitude! He’s even told me that the vouchers are valid and reuseable up to 2020! Piano practice in our home can be trying (and that would be putting it mildly) so let’s just say it was a sentiment that was well-appreciated.
The rest of my Mothers’ Day celebrations consisted of a not-so-surprise breakfast at home on Saturday morning and a lovely relaxed dinner on Sunday at Spizza. The rest of Sunday was spent not so much celebrating my role as mummy but honouring our mothers, specifically my mother-in-law. She went for a minor operation but has unexpectedly had to be warded for 3 weeks already. It’s been a difficult period for us, most of all for my husband who loves his mother dearly. Despite his usually hectic schedule, he’s visited his mum every single day to spend some time with her, and on Sunday we all went down to bring her some cheer.

My dear munchkins,
Thank you for your love and for celebrating “happy mothers’ day” with me. I want you to know that I treasure these moments when your love for me is unconditional. You love me because I am Mummy. There need not be any other reason. But every day you grow and as we approach turbulent teenhood and beyond, would that continue being enough? I think sometimes, it would feel like it is not enough. At those times, I hope you will think back to these days when Mama gave you food to help you grow and when you knew that Mama cared about you. I will never stop caring about you. And one day when you are grown, I hope you will look after me like I have always looked after you. But be that as it may, however things may turn out, know that I will always love you and never stop praying for you. I love you because you are my children. And sometimes, I think, it really is as simple as that.
Loving you now and always,
Mama

So nice of Noey to give you those vouchers. Not only to practice the piano but with good attitude. Reusable too! I’ve come to realize that boys can be incredibly sweet.

I’m not sure he knew what he was promising by making the voucher reuseable, but hey, I’m going to use it while it lasts! Haha. But yes, I was very touched that he knew good attitude was important to me and was willing to promise it.

You know, right after I wrote that, I had to walk out of the room and scold them for fighting! Hah! But I still love them, like I said!

The voucher from Noah is so sweet and I’m sure the both of them know how much mummy loves them too 🙂
Mummybean says
Thanks Susan 🙂 I hope they do, even when they are unhappy with me for punishing them.

Reusable vouchers are too perfect! They are really sweet.

I’m not sure he realises how often I’ll be using them! Just today he complained that I haven’t been using the breakfast one so I made sure to use that instead!
