We’re into May and Mother’s Day is just round the corner!
(Ahem, husband.)
Usually this is the point where I start to fret about what to do for my Mum but this year, I’ve actually got that covered. Thanks to ToTT, my Mum and I are going to be attending a cooking class at their studio together to learn a couple of Peranakan dishes from Chef Malcolm Lee!
I’m really quite excited about this Peranakan food is right up there amongst my favourite cuisines, and I’ve been meaning to go have a meal at The Candlenut Kitchen (Chef Malcolm Lee’s restaurant) for ages. So to be presented with an opportunity to learn some dishes from the chef and sample them too was too good to miss. And since my Mum loves such classes, we will be going together! The class is still open for registration, so if you’re interested, here are the details:

ToTT is also having a Mother’s Day Sale with discounts up to 30% on a selected range of products and I’m looking to pick up something for my Mum, and maybe myself too! Here are a couple of things that have caught my eye:
1. SodaStream’s Genesis Soda Maker for homemade fizzes! I’ve actually got one of these as a gift from my sister and if you follow my instagram feed (@mummybean), you’ll know that I’ve been having a lot of fun experimenting for making my own fizzy drinks. I love that you can get plenty of the bubbly but much less of the sugar you’d get with commercial drinks. (S$155-168, depending on the model.)
2. Boska’s Dutch Design Gift Box features a set of four tools — the Parmesan knife, Cheese hatchet, Presentation knife and Gorgonzola knife. Probably something more for my cheese loving Dad, but this is a good-looking set that I’m sure Mum would like as well. Plus the bundle, which comes with 2 epicurean fibre cutting boards is on sale! (U.P S$157.90, now S$128).
3. Cuisinart’s Pure Indulgence Frozen Yogurt-Sobert & Ice Cream Maker for churning out healthier treats by moderating the amount of sugar and ingredients to her own liking. Ok, maybe that’s something more for me! This is comes free with three 1kg packs of Belcolade Chocolate Drops (dark, milk and white chocolate respectively) which sound like a good deal to me. (U.P. S$306, now S$272.20).
4. Cuisinart’s Hot & Cold Blender is an interesting one, which will allow you to whip up soups in 20 minutes from start to finish. And all in one blender, thanks to built-in settings for sauté and simmer, as well as full boil settings to cook on low, medium or high heat. Sounds amazing to me! (U.P. S$440, now S$352).
Sounds good? I can’t wait to check it all out, but more than that, I’m looking forward to spending some time with my Mum having some fun together. Shopping, well, that’s a bonus.
