I don’t know about you, but Christmas is possibly my very favourite time of the year. Aside from the good food, it is the opportunity to wind down, spend time with family and friends, and reflect on the season that I love.
With Noey a little older this year and with me being at home, I thought it would be nice for us to make some cookies to give to our neighbours and hosts of parties that we would be attending as a little token of thanks from us. Knowing my limitations — I really am not a baker — I decided to “kope” cookie dough from my Mum so that we could just do the rolling, cutting, baking and packing. My Mum is a real cookie making machine and her cookie dough is really good so I was also practically guaranteed a yummy product. Easy-peasy, right?
As usual, I was to learn that with a 3-year old involved, nothing would be simple. In between stopping him from playing with flour and having to roll and re-roll the dough after he cut cookies in the most random manner ever, I was all frazzled by the end of it! Thank God my MIL had come over that morning and could help with Naomi who wasn’t pleased that she was being omitted from the action. And our chocolate chip cookies… well, they started looking like chocolate cookies by the time we were down to the last batch since the chocolate chips melted from the heat and the repeated rolling.
At least he had fun.
The cookies did turn out tasting great too, if a bit dark and misshapen-ed.
Bottles from ToTT, labels from Kino.
“Martha Stewart is having a good effect on you!” the husband exclaimed, on seeing my end product.
“I is a domestic goddess!” I grinned back at him.
I was kind of proud of them myself, even if I was up packing cookies on the eve of the eve of Christmas. I hope they were appreciated by those who got them.
