We’ve been a bit under the weather lately.
Noey’s been having a cough/cold for about 2 weeks now, which he generously shared with me. And we’ve just been passing the bug between us over the past couple of weeks. He was originally diagnosed with a throat infection but just when I thought he was getting better — with a less nasty sounding cough and no runny nose — he came down with a fever on Thursday that came on and off till Sunday. His cough is phlegmy again and he’s dripping thick mucus from his nose. I also came down with a sore throat that led to me losing my voice, had a bad cough and now that that is over, have a bad stuffy nose. It’s been more than a bit frustrating.
Thankfully DD didn’t catch the bug from us or there would have been even more misery in our corner!
The silver lining in all this is that Noey has, to my surprise, been absolutely brilliant about taking his medicines. He LOVES it. He’d previously rarely had the opportunity to take any but would run away as soon as he saw the syringe. This time round I dosed him using the little measuring cap that came with one of the bottles and he was very taken with it. So much so that he would occasionally tell me, “Take medicine. Small cup,” and put his hands to his mouth and make a slurping sound for good measure. You know, in case I didn’t understand him! And last night when I brought the medicine bottles into the room, he positively squealed “medicine!” in delight.
Funny boy.
It’s going so well I told the Paed to try to give me nice tasting medicines so that the current situation would not become unbalanced! Let’s hope he stays off antibiotics — those in my memory traditionally tasted pretty yucky.
I think we’re both on the mend but it’ll be some days yet before we’re fully recovered. That can’t come a moment too soon.

That's AMAZING!! Ellie runs far far away when he sees us coming with the syringe and the bottles!

Kiddy antibiotics are not too bad tasting these days, although they can be a tad chalky. I normally put them in the fridge – it seems to make it less yucky somehow… and I give it first, quickly followed by something they like. 🙂 hope that helps… 🙂

Amanda :: Maybe you should try something other than the syringe the next time round? you'll never know what might catch their fancy!

justpassingby :: thanks for the tip. in noey's case, it'll be yakult 🙂

i find it so cute when kids ask to take their medicine when they have to. matthias uses the syringe on himself to take medicine – it just amuses me to no end.

candice :: haha, yah, matt is very steady!
