You better watch out,
You better not cry,
You better not pout,
I’m telling you why,
Santa Claus is coming to town!
And Santa did pop into town early this week and invited us to a very special tea session! With Christmas crafts, stories, singing and delicious cakes (for the mummies, ahem), we certainly savoured this early touch of Christmas magic!
Adam showing Mei his handiwork. Our little miss nearly fell asleep during the cab ride there and was a bit out of sorts on arrival but meeting her friend Adam soon perked her up!
Busy with their crafts.
Playing Santa Says!
While the children were occupied, the mummies had a bit of time to chat, which is always nice. I also got to enjoy this most delectable creation of Kki Sweets — Little Red Riding Hood. A dark chocolate mousse with a raspberry centre, it was soooo good, I stopped talking to eat it! That sweet and sour combination of chocolate and raspberry are just perfect, don’t you think? I regretted not eating a bit faster as Mei soon found me out and started asking for cake.
Little Red Riding Hood — perfectly washed down with Ume tea.
The highlight of the afternoon was meeting some very special friends from the cast of Dear Santa. First we met Sarah, a girl who has written to Santa for the perfect Christmas present, next came Santa’s Elf and finally, the man we were all waiting for, Santa himself!
Over the past few weeks, Mei has been asking me if Santa’s real. “Let’s go and find out,” I said to her. Noey on the other hand, older and more cynical, scoffed knowingly, declaring that there is no such thing as a real Santa. Yet when Santa did appear, he wavered. And my little girl, she was so excited! It helped that Santa here had a real authentic white beard and really did look the part! I also love how he coolly dealt with the kids’ questions and kept them wondering.
Sarah, Santa and Santa’s Elf bringing a touch of magic to a Monday afternoon!
So did he convince my children that he was Santa? Well, I got my answer to that when we got home and both kids sat down to write their letters to Santa! Even Noey who, while still a tad unconvinced, decided that he’d write his own list too, just in case. I took the letters from them, promising to post them to the real Santa — ie. their lovely grandparents! But they don’t have to know that.
“I am Naomi”, she put on her letter, just incase Santa didn’t know who it was from!
The little boy with the long list. He knows he’s been “Quite Super Good”. “Not Extra Special Super Good?” I teased him.
We had a lovely afternoon and from the little taster we got, I think Dear Santa would be just the thing to set the mood this Christmas! It’s a pity we will miss the show as we are off to Sydney for the rest of the week, but if you’re staying put, you might want to check out this show which runs from 10 Dec to 13 Dec 2015 at the School of the Arts to experience that special touch of Christmas magic. Tickets include a meet and greet with Santa at the end of the show which I’m sure will be a real treat for the kids, and maybe even some adults too, so don’t miss it!
