I can’t tell you how many times I’ve looked at my daughter’s wardrobe and thought, “Dang, she has nicer clothes than me!”
When I look back at my childhood photos, I have many (many) times come across snapshots where I cringed a little at what I was wearing. It certainly wasn’t always my mother’s fault. I know I had a hand in certain choice ensembles!
My kids however, are far more fortunate simply because they just have really nice clothes. I don’t consider myself much of a shopper but thanks to the greater availability of options and greater accessibility to the latest trends these days, I have managed to build them a good working wardrobe each of nice pieces that they love to wear. I buy a lot of their clothes from big chain stores like Fox Kids and Cotton On, and also from homegrown stores like Elly. Now I can also add sprinkling of (dare I say it) designer wear to their collection, but crucially, at a fraction of the retail price, thanks to Mini Outfitters!
An online designer wear store, Mini Outfitters stocks apparel and accessories for children aged 0-16 years from over 50 international brands. Besides classic luxury brands such as Armani, Burberry and D&G, Mini Outfitters also sources from upmarket trendy and edgy brands such as Stella McCartney, Paul Smith Jr and Hucklebones. These are offered at deeply discounted prices, such lower prices made possible through negotiating and buying off-season collections across Europe and US. It does mean that items do not come in the full range of sizes, but there is more than enough to choose from. And at discounts of 50% or more off the retail price! It certainly bears checking out!
I don’t usually believe in spending too much on kids clothing since they outgrow their clothes pretty quickly, but at a discount, I think it might be worthwhile investing in a couple of really nice pieces. When I surfed the Mini Outfitters site, the stuff from Hucklebones immediately caught my attention. Oh, the clothes were so lovely! Sweet and girlish but yet not overly so. I was offered some shopping credits and I couldn’t resist. We had a wedding that was coming up and I thought Mei could do with some nice pieces for the occasion.
The first item I chose was this super cute Buttercup Jacquard Bodice Dress. It is adorable, with that pouffy skirt with the large flower prints. And that gorgeous colour! The style is a little shorter than I expected from the pictures (Mei is slightly taller than average for her age) but ran true to size. My only complaint was that the sheer portion is a bit stiff and got a bit scratchy for Mei after a while. But before that, she wore this dress for a good length of time at a wedding and received many a compliment.
The other outfit I picked was a pair of separates where I paired the Cotton Bow Blouse with the Ottoman Spot Gathered Skirt. I really like the look which I thought would work in semi-formal and casual settings. And all the cute ribbon details! The material of the blouse has a bit of stretch to it, which I think is great and more comfortable for the little ones. The little miss paired the outfit with the oversized Lace Bow Hairband, also from Hucklebones, and I thought it was the perfect girly touch!
Mini Outfitters regularly brings in new collections of Hucklebones, and they are so cute, I wish they came in my size.
Other than Hucklebones, some of the brands that caught my eye included the edgy American Outfitters:
The cute and quirky from Paul Smith Jr (and yes for boys too!):
And the pretty pieces for the maturing tween from Pale Cloud:
Like I said, there’s plenty to browse! If you’re looking for mix and match ideas, I found the “Looks and Trends” pages (for babies, girls and boys) very interesting and useful.

Lovely! Mei actually looks a LOT like Noey in the left photo where she’s wearing the Ottoman Hucklebones skirt.

Hah, you’re right! Probably because at an angle her face doesn’t look as round!
