It’s been long and difficult week for everyone, with the haze rising to unprecedented PSI levels. I don’t know about you, but at certain times, it felt almost apocalyptic.
We stayed indoors a lot, though not necessarily at home. It’s me – I just don’t like being cooped up at home, especially with two restless kids! I did that one day last week and was more tired than ever from the number of activities that I had to do with my one-idea-a-minute kids. Not my idea of fun!
I hope everyone is enjoying the slight respite from the hazy days this weekend.
And if you’d still like to do something indoors over the next week and yet still enjoy that feeling of being outdoors and one with nature, can I suggest that you check out the latest offering by Gardens of the Bay: the Flight of Fancy at the cooled conservatories. This latest floral display is the first time that a thematic display at the has been stretched from the Flower Dome to Cloud Forest. Based around the theme of flight, expect to see cute and creative touches like displays of planes, kites, bats, and the everyone’s favourite: the eye-catching hot air balloons.
The hot air balloons hovering above just lend that touch of whimsy, don’t you think?
We were fortunate enough to be invited to check out this display last weekend and it was a lot of fun.
We started at the Flower Dome, because the kids love it. And I do too, being the sucker for flowers that I am!
Inspecting the flowers. Someone takes her role as a member of the media verrrrry seriously.
Hot air balloons up up and away!
A couple of old fashioned propeller planes are part of the centrepiece. Perfect for posing with!
There are cute little “Did you know” placards with some interesting flight related facts scatter among the displays. I had fun finding them!
Beautiful flowers. The husband had fun photographing them, which was something he used to enjoy doing pre-kids.
Windmills! And my less willing photo subject.
Rock plants. Even if you’re not that into flowers, there are weird and wonderful displays like these that you can find scattered around. Can you tell which are the rocks and which are actually plants?
Snack break to re-fuel: being a member of the media is tiring!
We’ve only been to Cloud Forest once before when the Garden was newly opened. On this second visit, I found the waterfall quite a sight to behold, and was impressed to see the structure looking very lush and covered with plants. It was rather bare when we first visited.
You can almost hear the roar of the water, can’t you?
The lush, verdant cloud forest vegetation.
Is that a hot air balloon I spy?
B-b-b-bats!
It was a feast for the senses, and all in air-conditioned comfort. We stayed for much longer than we expected before we headed home for a good snooze. Definitely part of what makes a good weekend!
The Flight of Fancy Floral Display will be on from 3 June to 21 July 2013, from 9am to 9pm at Gardens by the Bay. Local resident children will enjoy 50% off tickets to the conservatories from 1-28 June so don’t’ forget to take advantage of this offer!
* We received a media invite to check out and review this event. As always, all opinions remain strictly mine.
