Tulipmania is one of my favourite floral displays at Gardens by the Bay. Well, it’s back again for the third year and I couldn’t resist going down to check it out. Mei’s ears pricked up when she heard that the display this year would have a fairytale theme and so she willingly joined me while the boys chose to hang out playing with Lego on a Saturday afternoon a couple of weeks back.
We were not disappointed. The flowers were absolutely stunning and the setup was definitely something that Mei could relate to. We had a lot of fun trying to spot the different displays and guess which fairytale was being represented. There were certainly many familiar favourites!

We’ve arrived! Mei was feeling a bit cold from the blast of air-conditioning that greeted us on stepping into the Flower Dome as you can see.

Someone can’t resist touching the pretty flowers. Fortunately no tulips were harmed by over-eager fingers.

This “Little Red Riding Hood” tulip. No guesses which display this featured in!

Cinderella’s chariot in a sea of tulips.

That candy house sure got her attention!

The candy house that enticed Hansel & Gretel. Wouldn’t it be a treat if the candies were real!

The Ugly Duckling

The Snow Queen! This was my Frozen-loving girl’s favourite. I had to tell her that I wasn’t sure what the story was exactly though. Time to find out.

The cottage of the 7 dwarves.

Mirror, mirror, on the wall. Who is the fairest of them all?

Can you spot little Thumbelina?

Some of the beautiful tulips that caught my eye. That’s the “Singapore” tulip on the left! I never knew there was one!
Tulipmania is on at the Flower Dome, Gardens By The Bay till 10 May 2015. Don’t miss it!
Some tips if you’re planning to visit:
1. Buy your tickets online. From past experience, Tulipmania is very popular and the line for tickets is consequently usually very long. So if you don’t have the annual pass (like we do and would wholly recommend), getting your tickets online beforehand would save you time and eliminate some stress.
2. Remember your jacket. The temperatures in the Flower Dome are lowered to around 18°C provide the optimal temperature for the tulips to bloom and thrive so it can be quite cold, especially when you first walk in! I didn’t bring one as it was a bit of a spur of the moment decision to visit and Mei grumbled a bit to begin with. thankfully all the moving around helped warm her up.
3. Grab A Trail Guide. A free trail guide is provided with every ticket purchased, while stocks last. This includes a cardboard press-out of a bouquet of tulips that kids would enjoy. It also comes with tips and a little activity on flowers and characters to look out for.
4. Don’t forget the 50% weekday discount for local senior citizens. This offer is valid till 8 May. Do note that it is NOT valid for online booking. There are also a few other ongoing discounts on tickets available for PAssion, SAFRA and NTUC cardholders. Do check the offer and promotions page for more details.
5. Join the Tulipmania instagram contest. We all love snapping those pics so if you’re uploading photos to instagram, don’t forget to hashtag #GBWishATrip #GBTulipMania #KLM and you could win a pair of tickets to Europe on KLM! Contest is on till 26 April 2015.
Have fun!
