We packed the children off to bed early so it is just the husband and I, enjoying a quiet evening as we ring in the new year. It’s just as well that we have no party planned as I approach the end of the year in a sombre mood, my heart heavy for the victims and the families of the AirAsia’s ill-fated flight QZ8501.
The husband asked me how I felt about the year past and I candidly told him that I am not sorry to see it go. 2014 has been action-packed. While there has been much to be thankful for, I am left with a lingering sense of dissatisfaction over how the year went. The days and months flew by, leaving me playing catch up the entire time. “Just give me a minute,” I kept telling the kids, and to myself really, as urgent matters and deadlines took precedence over what I really wanted to do, and in some cases, needed to do.
No surprises then that my motto for 2015 is to simplify. Cut out the fluff, and prioritise the big things. That for me means, my kids, family, dear friends, and faith — not necessarily in that order! A friend (Corsage) recently shared this quote with me which I am using for inspiration for the year:
On the last day of the year, we took some time to have breakfast together as a family. The husband and I spent some time really talking and I’ve asked him to keep me accountable to my plan to read through the Bible in a year, which he readily agreed. I think we’ve started out on the right note.
Happy 2015 one and all! May the new year bring you new hope and joy that comes with fresh beginnings as you realign your life, reset your goals and reconnect with the people who matter.

Cool! I just completed a year long bible reading plan on the YouVersion Bible app! I did the “Discipleship Journal’s Book-at-a-Time Reading Plan”. I thought it was good because it alternated between books in the old and new testament, so I was kept engaged and didn’t give up going through book after book in the old testament. Haha! It also had days set aside for devotion.
