Yesterday, I bid goodbye to May and my “30-I-guess-it’s-6th-but-I-don’t-really-want-to-remember” year.
Yes, I’m one year older this June, and one year wiser (hopefully!).
This year, I wanted to get away for my birthday so we zipped off to Gold Coast when school ended using the Scoot tickets that I won from the FlyEntertainment Socialathon at SAF50 earlier in the year. (Thanks Fly!) We haven’t got much planned as we only confirmed at the very last minute that we were going to make the trip, so we’re just going to take each day at a time. But what we did decide before leaving was that, for logistical reasons, my birthday was going to be spent at Sea World.
The husband was rather doubtful about that. While I like theme parks, I’m not a big fan of animals. “Are you sure you don’t mind spending your birthday at Sea World?” he asked a couple of times. I assured him I was cool with it.
I could understand his hesitancy. In the past, I could be almost tyrannical about having the perfect day for my birthday. Oops. But age and time have taken the edge off that. These days, I am happy to spend the time with my nearest and dearest. I told him I’d be happy as long as I get a good birthday dinner. He was happy to oblige.
With TripAdvisor as our friend, we picked Omeros Bros Seafood Restaurant and proceeded to have a fantastic meal, in spite of the fact that we had to bring our kids along. I don’t know about your kids, but mine are not made for fine dining! We had to urge them to sit down repeatedly, feed them their meals (when usually one or both would be quite willing to eat on their own), and even replace the bottle of wine for the next table when Noey decided to fiddle with it and take a couple of sniffs at the bottle when we didn’t notice. Argh. The couple at the next table were very understanding but DD thought it only polite to change it for them. We both concluded that we definitely would have enjoyed the meal way better if it was just the two of us!
Still, when it comes down to it, there’s no one else I’d rather be spending my birthday with than these three, glazed and unfocused expressions and all!
Because what really makes a birthday special is marking it with those you love.
And you know what? Sea World turned out to be pretty fun too.

Blessed birthday, V! I’ve kinda conveniently lost track of my age. I’m pretty sure I’m not 21 though. Haha.
Bravo on having a nice meal at a fine dining restaurant with your kids! I don’t think I’ll be able to do that with mine anytime soon. 😛

Thanks Adeline! Sadly I know I can’t be 21! Haha. The good thing about bringing them to a nice restaurant is that they have a very good appetite because the food is yummy. Can’t say much for their behaviour though.
