With Hi-5 in town, it was just impossible for us to to catch their show! Especially with Mei on a high from meeting Dayen and the rest of the Hi-5 cast for breakfast just last weekend. I promised Mei we would make it to United Square Shopping Mall for the live show and meet-and-greet, and made good on that promise on Tuesday.
I planned to attend the 2.30pm show, thinking that maybe it being the middle of the afternoon on a Tuesday, it wouldn’t be so crowded. Well, I thought wrong! The atrium was packed by 2pm when we arrived about half an hour before the show. I was probably being too hopeful really. After all, Hi-5 has a huge following among the pre-school crowd here in Singapore!
We managed to squeeze ourselves in near the back and sat down patiently to wait for the show to begin. The anticipation in the air was thick and when Hi-5 finally bounced onto stage there was a roar of excitement. Many kids leapt to their feet, including mine. And for the next 30 mins or so, they remained standing as Hi-5 sang and danced their way through many familiar tunes. In their repertoire was Underwater Discovery, Martian Groove, and Action Hero, as well as super all-time favourites Wish Upon A Star and L.O.V.E. I confess, I was singing along too!
Hello there Hi-5!
L.O.V.E… Love!
We couldn’t leave without saying hi so we patiently waited in line to say a quick hello to Dayen, and while we were at it, grab a picture. this time I couldn’t resist getting into the picture too myself.
Altogether now, Hi-5!
Hi-5 has 4 more days of shows left and I do recommend that you hurry down to United Square Shopping Mall as soon as you can if you don’t want to miss them! After all, it isn’t everyday that you get to watch Hi-5 live in action without having to buy a ticket. Here’s some vital information if you’re thinking of going down:
- Venue: United Square Shopping Mall Basement Atrium
- Showtimes: 2.30pm, 5pm, 7pm
- Spend $50 in a single same-day receipt to get a meet-and-greet pass. Receipts from office tenants, push carts, payment of monthly bills and services such as medical, dental, laundry, phone, credit card, voucher purchase, instalment payments and topping up cash card/prepaid card, etc. are cannot be accepted for redemption.
- There are only 50 meet-and-greet passes per session, distributed on a first-come-first-served basis.
- Photo passes are distributed one-hour before each show in the area on stage left. Parents start queuing up WAY before the one-hour to be in the first 50 in the queue, so be prepared!
- If you are not intending to get a pass, you don’t have to queue. Make your way to the sitting area in front of the stage and grab a spot.
- The show is very popular and during the weekend, you have to be there more than an hour ahead to grab a spot to sit in front of the stage. At last weekend’s Saturday 2.30pm show, the floor was packed by 1.30pm. Even on weekday afternoons, you should plan to be there at least an hour to 45 mins before the show to get a good spot.
It is a good show, so don’t forget to have fun! The kids don’t need much encouragement to sign and dance along and the looks on their faces, well, it makes the long waits worth the while.
