Speaking of dinner dates, the hubs and I went on an impromptu one to Spruce on Wed. With Noey comfortably and conveniently at my parents’ place, we took the opportunity to go try somewhere new and catch up. Spruce was it.
And a good choice it was!
Clockwise from the top left: Ahi Tuna Tartare, side of Assorted mushrooms, my Duck Pappardelle, DD’s burger with Havarti Cheese
I suggested the venue because it had Ahi Tuna on the menu, and I lurrrrve Ahi Tuna, having become a convert after our Hawaii honeymoon. It was our dinner at Roy’s that started it all — sashimi-grade tuna, seared on the outside, rare on the inside. MMMMmmm. I keep trying to order it when I see it but somehow it’s never been the same. This version was a tartare, so it wasn’t the same, but it was AWESOME. The portion was generous, the fish fresh and the dressing just right. I am so coming back here again just for that! I think DD and I regretted not ordering our own portion each, but that would really have been too filling for an appetiser.
My duck pappardelle was good too, though a tad salty. I like ordering dishes which I can’t reproduce at home and this met the requirements and hit the spot. Braised duck, tender and flavourful. DD said his burger was good too though I didn’t try it.
Another bonus was that I didn’t get a single mosquito bite even though we were seated outdoors. I picked the table near the mosquito coil and it seemed to work.
We didn’t have time for dessert cos we had to zoom off to pick our waiting son and my parents live far far away. A good excuse to be back another time! We needed that, the time alone to chat, laugh and enjoy each other’s wholehearted company and attention. “Wife maintenance”, DD called it.
We’ll be back.

Glad you had lovely couple time 🙂 I really like the food at Spruce. Their Mac n Cheese is yummy, with light cheeses. Desserts are not bad too.

We just went to Spruce too! Loved the desserts but the chefs seem to be rather heavy-handed with the salt!
