Kids and fine dining. You wouldn’t think that they would go together, but at Osia, they manage to make it work.
I’ve written about Osia a couple of times — see here for our first visit, and here in my birthday round-up – and that is because I really like the place. The food is wonderful, and the service is attentive and professional. It’s not the kind of place you would usually expect to bring children, but yes, it is kid friendly too!
The fact that they welcome children is apparent from the fact that they have a children’s menu. And unlike most restaurants I know where the children’s menu consists of chicken nuggets and hot dogs, here they have real food on their children’s menu. There is currently a choice of 3 starters and 3 mains:
$22Mushroom Balls
$12
Salad
$10
$25
$22
$23
Sounds really good right? Seriously, I don’t understand why restaurants limit kids’ choices to unhealthy processed foods like nuggets or pizza. I believe the children will eat healthy good food, when the food is done well. (Alright, some ketchup to ease the passage of food doesn’t hurt either.)
I have realised that my son has expensive taste buds, because he eats really well here! It’s not cheap, but the quality is quite top-notch.
Anyway, if you go for dinner any day between Sunday to Thursday, you can save money by going for Osia’s Pre-Dinner Set Menu, where you get 4-courses for $68++ per person. That’s a soup, a starter, a main (with 4 choices), and a dessert. The only catch is that you have to place your order between 6pm to 7.15pm. This is great when you’re dining with kids anyway, since chances are, you’ll want to eat early.
When you dine with kids, it makes things so much easier when the service is good, and that is certainly the case here. The wait staff came round regularly to check on us, top up our water, and ask if there was anything we needed. They also tried to engage the children, which I always appreciate. During our recent visit for my birthday dinner, they didn’t serve DD’s main, but instead took it back to keep it warm when they realised that he had left to bring the kids for a run-around. They ended up preparing him a fresh dish when the captain deemed the dish unpresentable when DD was ready for it. I guess things like this are what make the restaurant such a wonderful place to dine.
We also appreciate the fact that there is a lot of space for the kids to run around outside. The restaurant is situated at World Square near the Fountain of Dreams at RWS and during our last visit, the children had a field day checking out the area when they got bored of sitting down. I actually think it was quite impressive that we managed to keep them seated for a good 30-45 minutes till Noey finished his meal, Nomi finished her share of bread and her own fruit, before they were both restless and ready to go. Credit for this should also be given to the yummy food.

totally agree that the kids menus are never wholesome enough, and they seem to really skimp on quality ingredients. I'll put Osia on our KIV list!<br />Recently we went to Pollen who have the most amazing fish and chips for kids and the fries are fried in duck fat, super yummy!!
