Ever since the Christmas lights started going up around town (in late Oct!) the kids have been buzzing with the fact that Christmas is coming.
When you ask them what they love best about Christmas, the answers come fast and furious.
“Christmas presents!” declares Noey immediately.
“The Christmas lights!” says Mei excitedly.
There are many things I love about Christmas. Not the least the opportunity to share the wonderful message of Christ with those around me. As my home fills with the strains of Christmas carols, it is a reminder to me to slow down and refocus on the reason for the season.
Another thing I really love about this time of the year is that it’s a time gathering with friends and family. A time to come together and a time for fellowship around the table.
And yes, Christmas food. I love Christmas food! How can I not, when faced with this spread?
Hams, Roasted Turkey, Sausage Platter and Meat Skewers from Cold Storage’s “My Favourite Christmas”.
(Also, I’m Singaporean through and through!)
Just a couple of weeks ago, the children and I were able to get a taste of Christmas come early at the media preview of Cold Storage’s Christmas 2015. Cold Storage’s theme for the year is “My Favourite Christmas” and in line with that, their Christmas catalogue features a host of Christmas classics such as roast turkey and all manner of ham, as well as other popular all-time favourites such as oysters and even sushi.
I personally prefer to cook Christmas dinner myself from scratch, mainly because I view it as an act of love for friends and family. I really love to cook anyway, and it gives me great joy to see others tucking into the spread and enjoying it. This year however, I will be away for a good part of December, and while I still plan to cook most of this year’s Christmas dinner for my family, if I need to supplement the meal with additional dishes, I was glad to find that I there are a number of options available from Cold Storage that I could easily include. These were some of my favourites:
Tropical Roast Pork
($49.99 for 1kg)
This roast pork was sweet and juicy. It was delicious!
Raspberry-Peach Glazed Bone-In Ham
($89.99 for 4kg)
Rose Spiral Sliced Bone-In Ham
(95.99 for 3.3kg, comes with a stand)
These hams are new offerings from Cold Storage and they come pre-sliced. Super convenient, I say!
Irish Oysters
($49.99 for 18 pieces (size no.3) with a free shucking knife)
Traditional Smoked Salmon
($19.99 for 400g pack)
Oysters and smoked salmon might not be traditional offerings for the Christmas table, but I think the seafood is a good break from the other meat-heavy dishes. I also think that’s a very decent price for some really yummy oysters. Might have to work on your shucking arm though!
Antipasto Party Platter
Kalamazoo Olives, Sicilian Olives, Aritchokes, Sundried Tomatoes, Greek Feta, Hummus Dip
($24.99 for 900g, serves 2-4 persons)
When it comes to antipasti, I have on occasion had popped into Cold Storage to pick up items from their selection. Items are sold by weight is its really convenient to pick and choose what I want, and how much. Or you can pick up a set just like this one. Just arrange on a plate and you’re done!
Now I’m really hungry, aren’t you? There are even more options in Cold Storage’s My First Christmas Catalog, which I spent quite a while browsing. Not a great idea late at night. You’ve been warned.
Aside from the dinner items there are also lots of Christmas festive items on the shelves which my kids made a beeline for. It’s a dangerous time to bring them grocery shopping! Then again, is this the best time to spread some festive joy, is it not?
Hello December. We’ve been looking forward to you!
