Being a Stay-At-Home-Mum, one thing that you quickly realise is that you get NO MCs. Where I was previously able to take time off from the office to recuperate when I fell ill, as a mum, and one who is largely responsible for the day-to-day running of the household, it is tough to do that because there are always a million and one things that need doing with kids around!
I am grateful for the fact that I rarely ever fall sick — I jokingly call my ability to stay well my superpower — but just a couple of months ago, the inevitable happened. A strong bug hit one of my kids and I was struck down with H1N1 flu. I was really incapacitated for a few days and it was tough. My husband and parents chipped in to help where they could and I was certainly immensely grateful for my helper who put meals on the table with whatever was available since I was unable to do the marketing. But there were days when I had still had to drag myself out of bed to get things done. It’s hard to get a break when you’re the default family driver!
Thankfully, I was only down for about a week. But if I were more seriously ill or put out of action for a significant amount of time?
I found part of the answer to that question during the launch of AXA SmartFamily, the new personal accident plan by AXA that is designed to look after your family while you recuperate.
I knew that this was no ordinary launch when the invitation arrived — with a boxing glove included! I was left wondering about the planned “showdown” between Beatrice Chai-Richmond and Suhaimi Yusof, and was tickled to walk on to the set of a TV game show when I arrived at the launch! So there was no real boxing involved (whew!). Instead, the punches were thrown at buzzers as Beatrice and Suhaimi (and their kids!) competed in a friendly gameshow to introduce the centrepiece of this innovative new plan — a suite of 8 services offered, arranged and paid for by AXA as part of your coverage under AXA SmartFamily.
My fan girl moment when the host Adrian Pang stepped on stage!
Showdown time! Beatrice Chia-Richmond and Suhaimi Yusof square off… in a game show.
On learning about this plan, I was struck by how much thought must have gone into designing a plan that meets a family’s needs. Because more than just a insurance payout, AXA SmartFamily includes services that seeks to address the inconveniences you and your family might suffer when you meet with an accident. So the coverage provided extends to services such as:
- Child Guardian — Arranging and paying to fetch your children to and from school
- Housekeeping and Meal Services — Arranging and paying for professional house cleaning and meal services
- Home Modification — Arranging and paying for modification to your home to accommodate your disability
- Home Nursing — Arranging and paying for a nurse to attend to your follow-up treatments or therapy at home
- Doctor’s Home Visits — Arranging and paying for a doctor’s visit for your follow-up treatments
- Transportation To Medical Appointments — Arranging and paying for transportation (ie. taxi service) to the hospital/clinic for follow-up treatments
- Consultation With A Therapist — Making appointments and payment for your therapy or rehabilitation services
- Consultation with A Psychologist — Making appointments and payment on your behalf for psychologist consultations
Neat, huh! I would imagine that in a stressful and unexpected situation like a serious accident, having someone to turn to provide support to meet your daily needs and health needs would be very comforting. Personally, having someone else available to pick and fetch my children from school when I am suddenly unable to would be a huge load off my mind.
Some hilarious improv sketches to explain what these services are — or not!
As parents, we stop at nothing to keep our kids safe. In fact, in a face-off between parents and design experts re-designing children’s products, who do you think would come up with a better product? Take a look:
I think it’s not surprising that the parents zoomed in on product safety features and that this would resonate with other parents. This desire to protect our families is the premise for AXA SmartFamily, a product designed to make sure that you and your family are well-protected when the unexpected happens. Because when it comes to our family, it is, as they say, ok to be overprotective.
