For my recent birthday, I decided to go tech.
(This is in part due to the fact that DD refuses to buy me bags as presents. Tsk tsk.)
Unable to decide between a Kindle and an iPad2, DD told me to get both. Hee.
My Kindle just arrived and I’m loving it. It is a specialist reading device and I can’t get over the fact that the screen really looks like paper! I don’t like reading off backlit screens and am one of those people who needs to print documents for reading at the office. That was the one major difficulty I had with moving to e-books so I’m glad there is no such problem with the Kindle. Of course, the downside is that it cannot be read in the dark. Still, I’m loving how light it is and the fact that I can read with one hand and without needing to wedge the book open. Perfect for reading while nursing!
It is making me re-discover my old books and get excited about new ones.
One of the reasons I got the Kindle is also because I foresee the iPad being more a family gadget. With the Kindle however, I think I have more of a chance of making it wholly mine. Now if only I can get Noey to get his grubby paws off it and get with the programme. I think I’ll have a better shot once the iPad arrives!

Be careful with how you buy your books online for the Kindle – I got locked out of my account because I accidentally pressed the wireless delivery mode and with Baby M's arrival, I haven't had time to figure out how to circumvent the set up!! =( And I still have a US$100 credit balance to use up grrr….

Otherwise, enjoy! It was fabulous on holiday as I didn't have to lug

wow great pressies!

I still like the smell and feel of books so the luddite in me resists the kindle though the weight part is very attractive, esp if chucked into a diaper bag!

Oooh!!! I LURVE my Kindle… Have had it since Nov… yes, I too got locked out after wirelessly downloading 10 books into my Kindle. Took me a great deal of to-and-fro-ing to no avail in convincing the Kindle ppl that I am an American in Singapore. Heh. So now, I have to resort to getting my friend to download it in Texas for me and sending me the files. Bah!

Oh, and if you like

Oh, and I got the official Kindle cover with the built in light. Expensive, but well worth the ability to read at night… :p

Thanks for the tip!

@Daphne Yes, it has! Like you, I will soon have both gadgets. ๐ The kindle is all mine mine mine as it's BW display and lots of words doesnt quite capture Nat's attention. Hahaha
I totally agree that while kindle is handy, I still can't resist getting some real books. ๐

V – I used my brother's address in the States (a military base address). I don't know how Amazon found out, but they emailed me to ask me to fax proof of my US residency and asked me for military ID!! Yes, get it downloaded to your computer, than transfer via USB cable. Good luck and enjoy!
