Hands up, those who, like me, love online shopping. (Who doesn’t, right?)
When you shop online, you get to browse different shops and through a wide inventory without once having to get out of your seat. Or out of bed even, if that’s the way you roll! Click, click, click, and the items get delivered to your doorstep. It’s perfect.
However, while I am such an online shopping regular that I’ve memorised my credit card and CVV numbers, until recently, I did not do my grocery shopping online. One reason is that I enjoy browsing the shelves, discovering new products and being inspired by produce. Another other reason is that when it comes to food, I like being able to pick and choose my items when deciding what to get. For example, I buy Xiao Bai Chye regularly, but on days when the vegetables look wilted, I’ll skip it in favour of Chye Sim. When I buy salmon fillets, I pick those of a certain size and shape because that’s what my kids like. When I buy milk, I like to look for packs with at least 2 weeks to expiry because it takes us a while to finish it. And of course, everything should be FRESH. So I always thought it better to buy food myself. Hey, I’m a wet market kind of girl (or aunty)!
Then I hit a bit of a roadblock when I got pregnant. It became increasingly difficult for me to go out on grocery runs because I had problems walking and carrying heavy bags. It was only then that I started exploring online grocers and discovered honestbee.
What attracted me to honestbee was that it wasn’t a grocer really but a concierge shopping service. So it wasn’t just another online grocer, but a service through which I could shop at different stores and have a physical person actually pick out items according to my instructions. How awesome is that! This means I can tell them all my little requirements about freshness of food, long expiry dates and size and weight of meat and fish, and leave them to carry it out. When items are out of stock, I can specify a substitute up front or have the buyer contact me before completing the purchase to confirm what I want. Thereafter, I’m only charged for what was actually bought plus a small concierge fee. Spend above certain spending amounts and get free delivery! I’ve since used this service many times in the past couple of months for groceries and some speciality items and been very pleased with it. I do find that where you live and the time at which you want to receive your order makes a difference as some of friends have been met with issues of multiple items being OOS but it’s not been so much a problem in my experience.
Now that I have a new baby, I was quite excited to learn that honestbee has just launched a brand new store called Family Market that focuses on family and baby essentials — at a good price!
The unique selling point of Family Market is that their commitment to offering the best value for everyday necessities. From baby products, to home cleaning necessities to dried food products, the products on Family Market are touted as being between 10%-30% cheaper than those offered in stores and on other online platforms. Indeed, I did a quick comparison between the prices of items found on Family Market as compared with NTUC Fairprice (another of honestbee’s retailers) and found that out of the 12 items I checked across different categories, 8 items were priced cheaper on Family Market. The other 4 were offered at the same price by both retailers and none were more expensive on Family Market. Colour me impressed!
Best of all, you get the same concierge service offered by honestbee that ensure that your items are kept in good condition every step of the way and delivered within the 1-hour time frame you select. So far they in my experience, delivery has been very prompt. That’s something I appreciate since I’ve had my fair share of late deliveries, including one well-known supermarket chain which delivered my groceries at 11pm, way past my 8pm time slot! There’s nothing I love better than feeling like I’m saving money when I’m spending money so you can be sure I’m going to give Family Market a go!
If you’d like to try honestbee and Family Market, the good news is that I’ve got a link that would give you $10 off with a minimum spending of $50: https://honestbee.sg/r/VERAO6745. Have fun shopping!
