We are proud to introduce our latest addition, Baby Nate.
This little man came unexpectedly early on 26 April at 38 weeks and 2 days. I thought he might be early, but not this early! Guess I was not meant to have my May baby after all!
Birth story to come soon, but in the meantime, we are soaking up his baby-ness and loving every minute of it. To be honest, I wasn’t sure I could remember how to care for a newborn any more. It’s all coming back to me… though not always immediately! The first time I had to bathe him was a bit of a hoot since I’d forgotten how to hold a slippery baby and mostly what to do. So I kept a death grip on his arm and only remembered once he was in the water that I was supposed to wash his face first. The water in the bath was a bit too shallow and I don’t know if he was too clean but hey, he we survived!
Things do seem easier this third time round, helped by the fact that Baby Nate has been an easygoing baby so far. He’s been sleeping a lot and is generally very calm and not easily flustered. I wouldn’t want to speak too soon but he’s really been quite the dream baby. He looks so much like Noey but clearly has a different temperament from my high-strung firstborn. He has the husband and I marvelling daily at how he can sleep through noise and his siblings’ harassment, how he can lie contentedly in his cot or bouncer for stretches of time, and how he can even put himself back to sleep after being roused. I think he certainly has what it takes to be the third child in a rowdy family!
One thing is for sure: he is very much loved. His two older siblings love him to bits. He’s the first person they rush to see in the morning and they are always always kissing him and clamouring to hold him. The downside to all that love is that they are always trying to wake him up to play with him. You can imagine how I feel about that! The wider than usual age gap makes for an interesting dynamic and they definitely see him more as a new doll than a rival for our attention. Things might change as he grows but for now, it’s great.
Welcome to the family, Baby Nate! As your name reflects, you truly are a gift from God and we are so very glad to have you as part of our family!
* The pictures used in this post were taken by the talented Kelly of Studiokel. I decided against doing a newborn photoshoot and instead engaged Kelly to shoot some family photos during the first days of Baby Nate’s life. It was a little challenging getting ready for a photoshoot in the hospital (my Dr looked at me strangely in the morning and asked why I was wearing makeup, haha) but I’m so glad we captured those early moments of our new family of five. This is not a sponsored post — just helping to give credit where credit is due. 🙂
