It’s been a wet wet weekend. I can’t believe it’s still raining as I write this!
To be honest, I am really enjoying this wet spell. The cool weather is a welcome break from the heat, especially when I’m really hot all the time now, no thanks to the bun in the oven. I find myself lying on top of the covers, sweating away while DD is huddled under blankets at night. Hah. My days of being constantly cold seem to have taken flight since Noey’s baby bump days and have never returned!
Being stuck indoors did give us a bit of cabin fever though. Noey oscillated between making me read, playing with his trains and trying to climb all over me, and I think we were both getting bored out of our minds when I decided it was time to break out the paints for some fun-time art (read: messing around).
I’ve been holding back painting activities for a while because I have, annoyingly, apparently misplaced Noey’s paintbrushes, and from past experience, Noey gets very bothered when paint gets on his fingers and would refuse to continue, insisting on getting his fingers cleaned on the spot. The unfortunate result of us cleaning his fingers every so often I guess. So when he met my query about painting with an enthusiastic response, I firmly explained to him that this was going to be fingerpainting because we had no brushes, and he was therefore going to get paint on his fingers and I didn’t want to hear any complaining.
To my surprise, he actually understood and plunged all-fingers-first into the palatte of paints from the word go, and had a lot of fun just smearing stuff all over the page. I had a big wet towel ready for him to clean his fingers if he should choose to, but found myself using it more often than he did in the end!
Conclusion on looking at his artwork — he’s got about as much artistic talent as me: not much! But, hey, it’s about the process as much as the end-result, no?

It's been the craziest weather EVER in january!

And it so happens the kids have been home with me (they only start school in mid-Feb or March, fingers crossed), I'm quickly running out of ideas for them, have been putting off the whole painting thing too, i dread the mess. Noey looks like he's having fun though!

Jude was the same with paint intially, getting very distressed when he got his fingers dirty and asking me to clean them! But now he happily smears his fingers full of paint to do hand-printing, after a long period of telling him its ok to have dirty hands!

Actually I thought the scraping with the fork was a great idea! Perhaps you can try veggie/sponge/bubble wrap printing since you

daphne :: oh, your 2 are off to school soon then? painting is messy, no doubt! i was very worried that he'd run off randomly and clean his hands on my new couch. that would have been the end of all my art-ideas — and me too.

mamaj :: noey had a lot of fun scraping, till he tore a hole in one of the sheets! thanks for the ideas — they all sound great. maybe i'll try them out
