The past weekend has been packed with activity as we scrambled to get our act together on home front. Sitting in our messy living room these past couple of weeks, this was THE WEEK we were waiting for when the new wallpaper would arrive and be installed, our new curtains would be ready and delivered, and we could finally get cupboards and bookshelves in and up and we could PACK.(I never thought I'd be quite as enthusiastic about packing but the state of our house was really getting to me! I ... read more
Baby Shower
As previously reported, we haven't been too efficient with the baby shopping. The couple of bigger ticket items we did settle at least when the Taka Baby Fair rolled around were the cot and the stroller. These we got over the National Day weekend and were a load off my mind at that time!DD stressed a bit over the fact that the stroller was not quite the colour one would have chosen for a little boy, being a very sweet peach colour. But in the end we figured that no son of ours should be ... read more
32 weeks
And going on 34 weeks by the time I get this post out, I think!Little Being is growing well - a little too well at our last check up. At 32 weeks Dr had indicated that a medium sized baby would be about 1.8kg. Little Being's estimated weight was 2-2.1kg. Oops. All thanks to my recent addiction to Magnums, no doubt!I guess the thing about being so big anyway is that you think (or rather, I think) that you might as well indulge in all the lovely stuff you wouldn't otherwise succumb to as often. ... read more
Getting Some Beefy Goodness
We heaved a little sigh of relief at the completion of our antenatal classes, not because we didn't enjoy the sessions, but because it meant the end of rushing down to AMK hub every Thursday evening and braving the evening peak hour traffic on the CTE.I don't know how folks living in the North do it but the heavy flow of traffic plus all the beeping of the ERP gantries that we had to pass through while rushing to get to class by 7pm was stresssssful. 5 weeks of that was enough! Though I very ... read more
Goodnight and Goodbye, Beijing
(Photo credit: Greg Baker/AP)And so it comes to a close. Before the Olympics I thought I wasn't going to be much interested in whole event and was perhaps more intrigued by whether China was going to pull it off given the PR fiascos of the torch relay and the many set backs they'd suffered in the year, from natural disasters and bad press about air quality and human rights. For some reason I totally forgot that I love sports! Duh. All thanks to my Dad who plays and watches every sport they show on ... read more
A Bonus, Baby
Wow, the announcements on the new Parenthood incentives were quite a roller coaster ride for the emotions the past few days -- from the excitement of extra bonuses coming our way following the PM's speech to resignation over the 1 Jan 09 implementation date, to the latest news that we qualify after all.Hurray! When they first announced that only babies born after 1 Jan 09 would be entitled to some of the enhanced benefits, I was disappointed, especially since babies born after 1 Jan 09 would ... read more
My Big Boy’s Birthday
After a good run of posts, this blog has been derailed by baby shopping, home renovation, our need for sleep and the Olympics. And I must say, the Olympics has been fantastic entertainment, bringing out the almost forgotten sportsman side of me! Haha. More of that later. In between, we did take time to celebrate a couple of birthdays -- my bro's and DD's.DD and I have a rather different attitudes to our birthdays. While I generally enjoy a good party (or 2!) with friends and family, he basically ... read more
Fat Fingers
The water retention hits.Yesterday afternoon, after some slightly panicked tugging, I figured that it would be best to retire my ring for safekeeping. It's currently residing on the chain around my neck. After almost 3 years of constant wear (I don't take my ring off), my finger is looking kinda bare. But with this huge tummy I'm sure no one's going to mistake me for a swinging single, ring or no ring! ... read more
On My Own (pretending he’s beside me?)
DD's off to HK for the weekend on his firm trip till Mon, so it's just me and Little Being at home. I didn't tag along cos his company was really fussy about stowaways and the package price they wanted to charge for an extra person really wasn't worth the money for such a short trip. Besides, I wasn't sure I could handle all the walking in HK!The good thing is that his trip is short enough that I haven't had time to miss him TOO much, though the weekend was very quiet without his familiar ... read more
Getting Ready
Maybe it's what they call the nesting instinct. This week I've just been all edgy and restless to GET THINGS SORTED in the last leg of this pregnancy - Buy stuff! Renovate the room! Pack pack pack! Despite the fact that I (a) am definitely not the packing sort (and can remain oblivious to mess in an utterly non-female manner), and (b) dislike making calls and hounding suppliers, I found myself doing both this week. The result unfortunately is that our house is now a mess - our ex-study has been ... read more
