I wasn't expecting much out of 2014, but I have to admit, it's been interesting.One of the more exciting things to have happened recently is that I'm now a contributor to Yahoo! Parenting! This is a new portal on Yahoo! with articles of interest to parents. In the next few months, I will be contributing articles related to creativity, imagination, and play, and while I get antsy thinking about deadlines, I'm enjoying the opportunity to talk a little about things I don't always get round to ... read more
Swensen’s Disney Princess Ice-Cream Cake {Giveaway}
It feels like we can't get enough of Disney in these parts.I admit it, it's as much me as it is the kids. And when you have a little girl, there is just no escaping Disney Princesses. I never set out to introduce them to Meips but you know what, she loves them anyway. I think you'd be hard pressed to find a girl who doesn't! So when her birthday rolled round this year, I thought she would love one of Swensen's new range of ice-cream cake designs featuring the Disney Princesses. My little girl's ... read more
Disney On Ice Presents Treasure Trove 2014
I've said it before and I'll say it again: nobody does magic like Disney magic. Disney On Ice presents Treasure Trove was to be one of the highlights of our school holiday break and after attending the show on opening night on Wed, I'm glad to say it lived up to expectations. This is our second Disney On Ice performance after having attended last year's Princesses and Heroes show, so I did wonder how different it would be. I realised I had naively forgotten about the depth and variety of ... read more
Goodbye KAP
As the week drew to a close, the chapter closed on another of my memories as King Albert Park (or KAP, as we knew it) shut its doors for the last time.Smiling perhaps a little too brightly for how I was really feeling.My acquaintance with KAP is fairly recent, but there is still much sentiment. Our very first home was walking distance to KAP and its presence, with the access it provided to Cold Storage and Macs was one of the factors in our decision to buy the place. So it came to be that during ... read more
Creative Art Explorations at My Art Studio
If there's something I have never shown any aptitude for, it's art. I simply cannot draw. Period.Perhaps it is for this reason that I am often eager to expose the children to art in different mediums and allow them plenty of freedom to paint and draw, and generally express themselves through art.Noey had the opportunity last year to attend some art lessons which he enjoyed tremendously. I however did not continue his lessons after his term ended as I wanted to better manage his schedule ... read more
Feed Me! at Gardens by the Bay
The school holidays are just around the corner!I am looking forward to spending some time out and about with the kids during the week long break, and one of the places we plan to be checking out is Gardens By The Bay. In conjunction with the school holidays, Gardens By The Bay has planned a Children's Festival with lots of interesting programmes for kids to learn more about nature as they explore the gardens.We were given a preview of one of these sessions a couple of weekends ago when we were ... read more
iTheatre’s The Ant and the Grasshopper
There are two places that I really love to take the kids: to museums and to the theatre. Visits to the park have their place, but the museums and the theatre are where I think one can be exposed to stories which are a sum of life's experiences. All served up with a dose of fun as well. As part of Nomi's birthday treat this year, we went to catch iTheatre's current production, The Ant and the Grasshopper, which is currently playing at the Jubilee Hall at Raffles Hotel. Based on the famous fable ... read more
Back To Regular Programming
It has been a very long week for all of us, with Nomi, the husband and myself battling fevers and the sickies all week.It started with Nomi coming down with a bad throat infection the day of her birthday. Poor girl didn't have such a great start to being three. She was practically silent the whole day as her throat hurt and she didn't like the way her voice sounded. But the good thing was that her appetite was mostly unaffected. In fact she continued to snack and unhappily for me, also fed me ... read more
Maxilla: Book Review {Giveaway}
There is nothing my little boy loves more than getting new books.So you can imagine how his eyes lit up when a new book arrived in the post for us to review -- Maxilla. I might not have mentioned it, but my son really loves bugs and insects. He's constantly asking us to stop on walks to peer at little creepy crawlies and is quite fascinated with them. This book, therefore, was right up his alley.The first book by local author Lianne Ong, Maxilla is based on the true events that happened when ... read more
Three
My dearest Meips,Today, you are three. You raise three fingers when asked how old you are, the third finger coming up more slowly than the other two, as you get used to the idea of being a year older. "This is three, right?" you asked proudly. I think you've been waiting a long time for the day.I sometimes wonder: has it really been only three years since you've come into our lives? You've come to fill our lives and our home with the force of your personality (and your loud voice) and we can't ... read more
