The Lego Movie: Simply Awesome!

February 25, 2014 by Mummybean 1 Comment

It's been a crazy couple of weeks for me, as evidenced by the slow updates here. I had a couple of work-related opportunities come my way, which I was very grateful for and which I hope to share about soon. Add to that my very last-minute preparations for Nomi's upcoming birthday, I haven't had much time recently. Or sleep. But one thing we did squeeze out some time to do was to catch The Lego Movie. We just had to, right? And it was, in one word: AWESOME! The storyline follows the really ... read more

A Playtime Excursion

February 19, 2014 by Mummybean 1 Comment

It's excursion time! All belted in and ready to go!One of the things I love about the kids' school is that they make the effort to take the kids on plenty of excursions. There is a theatre trip every term, and an outdoor excursion just about every term too, for some out-of-the-classroom learning. This term, the whole school made a trip out to watch 玲玲你好!(Hello Ling) as part of their Chinese Cultural Month activities. I'd actually brought Meips to watch this play in English last year, but I ... read more

My Fair Lady: Simply Loverly

February 15, 2014 by Mummybean Leave a Comment

There are some shows which you catch and then forget, and there are shows that you catch which strike such a chord that they remain with you for the rest of your life. For me, My Fair Lady is definitely one of the latter. My first introduction to it was, interestingly enough, entirely through my mother's re-telling of the tale. My Fair Lady was (and I think, still is) one of my mother's favourite musicals and I can still remember her relating the tale of Eliza Doolittle, a Cockney ... read more

Redoxon Kids Vitamin C Gummies: An Immunity Boost with Every Bite

February 14, 2014 by Mummybean Leave a Comment

As a Mum, one of the things I dread most is my children falling sick. Unfortunately, with the kids being in close proximity to other kids, especially with both of them in school now, it is almost inevitable that they'd be exposed to different bugs on a regular basis. We've been pretty blessed, with both children being relatively healthy. They rarely fall ill, and when they do, they bounce back from it pretty quickly. I believe the best way to maintain this is to ensure that they are eating ... read more

K2: No More Fun and Games

February 12, 2014 by Mummybean Leave a Comment

Now that Noey is in K2, the homework has, sad to say, increased. He brings home homework twice a week from school: a couple of pages of Math exercises and a book review on Thursday which is to be completed by Monday, and Chinese writing and a Chinese comprehension exercise based on an accompanying Chinese reader on Monday, to be completed by Thursday. (And the cycle continues.)Add to that the little bit of homework he gets from Berries and Music class and I feel like I'm barking at him everyday ... read more

Saveur: French Food at Affordable Prices

February 11, 2014 by Mummybean 6 Comments

Dinner dates with the husband are few and far between. While we often have the best intentions, in recent months, we just haven't managed to fix anything up. And then recently, the stars aligned. I had a dinner appointment that was cancelled at the last minute and the husband unexpectedly got off work early. Since I had the night off, we decided it was as good an opportunity for a date as any. We had headed to Purvis Street to eat at Yingthai Palace, only to be turned away at the door as ... read more

Disney On Ice: Treasure Trove {Giveaway}

February 6, 2014 by Mummybean 59 Comments

In the blink of an eye, we're into February. While a part of me keeps trying to put the brakes on everything and hold time back, another part of me can't help but look forward to some of the exciting things that we have lined up for us in the months ahead. One thing I'm certainly looking forward to in the March holidays is Disney On Ice: Treasure Trove! I caught Disney On Ice for the first time in many years last year when Disney On Ice: Princesses and Heroes rolled into town. It was the first ... read more

Phuket and Langkawi Stopover with Costa Victoria

February 5, 2014 by Mummybean Leave a Comment

In the midst of the hustle and bustle of the new year, I forgot to share that my post on the adventures that we got up to in Phuket and Langkawi during our 4-night cruise on board the Costa Victoria is up on TheSmartLocal! We were able to spend nearly a full day in Phuket and half a day in Langkawi, and I think we managed to make the most of it. Our stopover in Phuket was particularly memorable thanks to an elephant trekking tour that we took. Everyone loved it and it was easily the as I had ... read more

CNY 2014 Festivities

February 4, 2014 by Mummybean 7 Comments

I don't know about you, but it's taken me a few days to recover from the madness that is Chinese New Year.I always dread Chinese New Year because there's always so much to do and our schedule is packed to the brim. Coming from a family that does a ton of visitations then marrying into a family that does the same does not an easy Chinese New Year make. It took my parents a long time to adjust to the fact that I would not be able to join in the big extended family gatherings on my Dad's side on ... read more

KidsFest 2014: What The Ladybird Heard

January 31, 2014 by Mummybean 1 Comment

We are big fans of Julia Donaldson and her books in this house. Ever since I first read The Gruffalo, I've steadily collected more of her titles for our shelves. I love that the stories are simple and easy to follow, written in rhyming verse, and contains sufficient repetition to appeal to kids and yet not drive me mad when reading the books for the umpteenth time! The illustrations too are quite delightful. What the Ladybird Heard is one of these gems. The story is simple but clever: The ... read more
