The start of a new year heralds the start of a new school term. This one was extra special for us because we had another little one taking her first steps into a formal schooling education. Little Meips joins big brother Noey in school this year in pre-nursery. (In case you're wondering, no, that isn't her uniform. She doesn't have to wear one this year so I put her in one of her own dresses which I thought suited the occasion -- and matched Noey's uniform!)We'd spent the week leading up to the ... read more
Enjoying Her Two-ness
As we wound down the year, two thoughts kept re-playing in my head: 1. That my daughter is really so impossibly cute; and2. That I'm really going to miss having her around in the mornings when she starts school.Because yes, she starts school today. I am one part anxious, one part excited, and another part wistful that my little constant companion will no longer be there with me every morning. I have to admit that more often than not, I'm happy when she's off playing on her own in the mornings, ... read more
Hello 2014!
Starting the year right with some sand and sea, and not too much sun at all! Coming from us in Singapore, that is simply glorious weather and I'm glad we managed to make the most of it today.I have more thoughts and reflections to pen, but that would have to wait, as my resolution for the year ahead is to Make Time For The Things That Matter. And that means putting down my phone and setting aside my laptop, living less online and more in real time with friends and family. It means making time to ... read more
Christmas Time Is Here
I wasn't really ready for Christmas, but it came anyway. And you know what? We had a great time. My homemade Christmas crackers (a clever idea by my friend Jasmine) and the aftermath! We didn't have a big Christmas this year. Just a couple of gatherings with people who meant the most -- family, old friends, and not so old friends. We talked, we laughed, we played (or at least the kids did), and we ATE. Aside from ham which I made three times this year, my Christmas feasting was mostly ... read more
Aboard the Christmas Light-Up Tour
For as long as I can remember, I've enjoyed seeing the Christmas light-up down Orchard Road. It was always a highlight of our December holiday when my parents to take a drive down and take photos with the displays. I'm not sure if it's because I've become jaded with age, but I feel the displays by and large are not as impressive as they used to be when I was a child. But twinkly lights, well, they still hold some magic. My MIL suggested taking the kids out on an open top bus to view the Christmas ... read more
BB Share-A-Gift Food Hamper Delivery
One of the more meaningful activities which we were involved in this Christmas was volunteering for the delivery of food hampers to needy folk under the BB Share-A-Gift Project. Volunteering for this project has been on my list for a while and I'm glad that this year, we were finally able to do this. My kids (and I!) certainly live very privileged lives and I'm always thinking I could do more to help the less fortunate among us, and get the kids involved in the process too. So when this ... read more

Cards for Christmas
This year, I had to put aside all ideas for a homemade Christmas, no thanks to a fair bit of inertia. Whereas I'm usually picking up stuff or planning my gifts in October or November, this year, I waited till we were well into December before I started panicking. So there are no homemade gifts, and I barely managed to get something for everyone on my list. But I still wanted the kids to make a little something for their grandparents, so the kids and I made a couple of cards.Naomi chose the tapes ... read more
Partying with the Hi-5 House Party!
There's nothing like seeing screen heroes come to live before your eyes. Well, that's how I felt, seeing my star-struck kids at the Hi-5 House Party show in the weekend just past!Little 2-year old Meips was the most excited, whereas 5-year old Noey had a bit of a panic attack right before the show. I think he was a little freaked out by the fact that Hi-5 would be there, live and in the flesh. But thankfully, once we got in the hall, all was good. It's Hi-5!As expected, Hi-5 put on an energetic ... read more
Christmas Feasting at Grub
While it obviously isn't the focus of Christmas, I must admit that one of the things I enjoy about Christmas is the FOOD. All the roasts and mash and ham and turkey and pies and mulled wine and… alright, I'm hungry already!I'm looking forward to cooking up some of that yummy goodness for my family when we meet for our annual Christmas dinner. But if you have no inclination to cook but yet want to enjoy a satisfying Christmas dinner, a good option might be to visit Grub to enjoy their Christmas ... read more
