Bedtime stories are a daily ritual in this house. The kids MUST get a book or two (or three or ten, pleeeeese Mummy??) before they go to sleep, or there'd be unhappiness all round.I'm glad they love books but boy, does it get tiring for me to read books one after another. Especially when they usually don't agree with the other's choice of books so Mummy has to read double the quota. Meips is the sort of child who must read her favourite book-of-the-moment over and over, reading session after ... read more
A Sneak Peek at KidsFest 2014
On the Saturday just past, the kids were treated to a sneak peek into KidsFest 2014.This popular festival, which showcases international theatre productions adapted from best-selling children's books, will be into it's third run here in Singapore from 15 January to 9 February 2014, and it promises to be bigger and better than before. There will be nine different productions being staged, including some of my kids' favourite books like The Gruffalo, The Gruffalo's Child, and We're Going on a Bear ... read more
Total Smackdown! Volkswagen Sharan v Citroen C4 Grand Picasso Review
*Guest post by my husband, DD!As some of you might know, my wife's office is currently our trusty 3+ year old Citroen C4 Grand Picasso. We bought him in 2012 off the second-hand market just before little Nomi’s 1st birthday, and were really rather pleased with the purchase. Apart from the intermittent problem of Unresponsive-Power-Windows-Surfacing-At-Inconvenient-Moments, our C4 Grand Picasso -- let’s call him Pablo -- has served our family well. And, although we are not in the market for a new ... read more
Racing Around in the Recaro Young Sport
I like to tell folks who ask about my job situation that my car is my office.By virtue of the fact that I am a Don't-Like-To-Stay-At-Home Mum, I spend a lot of time driving the kids to different places - on outings, for playdates, and for classes. Since they are therefore on the road a fair bit, it is important to me that they stay safe while we travel.I am glad that they are, by and large, happy to be in their carseats. There was a point of time when Noey would scream blue murder every time I ... read more
The 8th at The Pelican
On Tuesday, the husband and I celebrated our 8th wedding anniversary. That we were able to celebrate at all is a testament to our relationship, I think, since we got unhappy with each other that very afternoon over the very same issue of celebrating our wedding anniversary. It was all a bit trivial, and yet, it was also not. In a way I guess it was really one of those underlying things that needs just the tiniest sparks to come rushing to the surface. What I've learnt from years of marriage, ... read more
My iPhone was Stolen!
In the middle of a busy run-up to Noey's birthday, something catastrophic happened: I lost my mobile phone. For someone for whom the mobile phone is virtually an extension of an arm -- yes, guilty as charged -- to say that I was totally lost and disoriented is an understatement. And let's not forget ANGRY.What happened was this: On Friday morning a couple of week a go, I brought Meips for class at Safra Toa Payoh, as I usually do. I had my phone in my pocket to snap pics of her during class. ... read more
WowArt: On Exhibition
I think one of the proudest moments an artist experiences is when his art goes on exhibition. That's certainly not something I would know first-hand. I mean, have you seen my art? If the answer is no, there's a good reason for that! Thanks to WowArt however, Noey got to experience that excitement when a mini in-house exhibition was held for their Art Alive students. They even got little invitation cards to hand out to family and friends to invite them to come. You're invited! We were having a busy ... read more
5 years into Our Parenting Journey
I've heard it said that becoming a parent might be easy enough, but being a parent is probably the hardest job in the world.Even as we celebrated Noey's 5th birthday two weeks ago, the husband and I marked a milestone of our own -- our 5th year of parenthood. Sometimes, I can't believe it's only been 5 years. I look at my two children and I feel like I've known them forever. And yet, I know we have come a long way these 5 years.I still remember how on Noey's first night back home from the ... read more
My Little Doctor For A Day
What do you want to be when you grow up?That's a question that you cannot avoid in the process of growing up. In fact, it is a question that you have to ask of yourself as you seek to find your calling in life. And one that you will have to answer, hopefully with some experience and a good understanding of what makes you tick.I know my father, mother and aunts all harboured a not-so-secret desire that I would become a doctor. I'm not sure what it is about Asian parents and their collective ... read more
What’s on My Fridge?
The fridge of a family to two young tots is different from our fridge as DINKS (double-income-no-kids). Gone are the ceramic magnets and fiddly souvenirs from our travels, all broken over time by itchy fingers. Instead, what you'll find are these: Magnets to play with while Mummy is in the kitchen, and a notepad on which to jot down a grocery list.Invites! To parties and places. Reminders that put smiles on our faces. Random pieces of art, earnestly and sometimes carelessly made.Precious ... read more
