It's that time of the year when tensions rise, statistics are furiously discussed and the papers see an increase in the number of letters being written by opposing camps.I'm talking about the Primary 1 registration, the time when parents all gun for THE SCHOOL of their choice. Phase 2C closed today and it looks like lots of schools will be going to the ballot boxes. It isn't our turn yet. That fateful day will come next year when it becomes Noey's turn to register. But that hasn't stopped me from ... read more
Tomato Soup
Random fact about me: I really love soup. In fact, I love my soup so much that my half-Cantonese husband thinks that I am more Cantonese than him in that respect! While Chinese soups definitely rank among my favourites, I also have a soft spot for Tomato Soup. So when the husband piped up requested some soup over the weekend a couple of weeks back, I took it as my opportunity to whip up my own tomato soup to accompany our meal.(The husband, who really just wanted me to open a can of Campbell's, ... read more
Blog Refresh
So I've been making some changes around these parts over the past couple of weeks. If you popped by today, you would probably have noticed that the blog has gotten a new look. I got bored of my old template and decided that it was badly in need of an update. I got some help and that's what you're seeing here! It still needs some work before I'm fully satisfied, but for now, I'm pretty pleased with it. It's certainly pinker, which in my book, is always a good thing. (Hah.)And if you're really ... read more
Rise & Shine Expo 2013: What To Expect In The First Year Workshop + Giveaway
You might have noticed from the logo on my sidebar that I am one of Partner Bloggers for the Rise & Shine movement. This is a movement started by three mothers with the mission of providing parents like themselves the opportunity to learn, share and identify holistic approaches to raising happier and healthier children. This would all be culminating in the Rise and Shine Expo, which would be happening on 27-29 September 2013 at the Suntec Convention Hall 401.Aside from being the first ... read more
Mummy: Secrets of the Tomb
The land of Ancient Egypt has always fascinated me. It features prominently in the Bible, especially in the Old Testament, and the Great Pyramid of Gaza remains as the only one of the seven ancient wonders of the world that is still standing. And then of course, there are the mummies. There is just something irresistible and yet creepy about them, isn't there? It is truly amazing to me that so many thousands of years ago, they were able to devise a method of preserving bodies that would allow ... read more
Sydney 2013: Sydney Fish Market
The Sydney Fish Market is one of my must-visit spots every time we make the trip down under. Not surprising, considering how much I ADORE seafood! The abundance of fresh, readily available seafood just makes me go weak in the knees! There are two shops that I like best. One is Claudio's, right out at the carpark near the entrance to the main building. It is always bustling inside, with many of the staff busy cleaning, and cutting up fish, shucking oysters, and serving customers while customers ... read more
Little Miss Independent Tries Drypantz
Little Miss Independent. That's our Meips. Her favourite phrase? "I do it my own self!"(I'm constantly correcting her to get her to say "I'll do it myself" but did I mention that she's Little Miss Stubborn as well?)At the grand ol' age of 2 years and 4 months, these are the things she often insists on doing herself:1. Putting On and Taking Off Her Own Shoes(Not always correctly, of course, but you try telling her that!)2. Feeding Herself3. Putting On and Taking Off Her Own ClothesAnd oh, the ... read more
The Great Pacifier Wean
Ah, the pacifier. With inconsolable newborns, you fight the little tikes to just take the pacifier -- and stop using you as one! Then as toddlers, you fight them to stop using one. Poor kiddos. I wouldn't blame them for being confused. Both my kids have used the pacifier, with vastly differing experiences. Noey took the pacifier as an infant, but when he was about 8 months old, he suddenly decided that he didn't want it any more. That was all well and good since it meant that I didn't need to wean ... read more
London 2013: Jamie’s Italian, Reading
So the big news is that Jamie Italian's Singapore branch opens tomorrow!Ok, so it's only big news if you're a fan girl, which I must confess that I am. I've been a fan since the first time I watched The Naked Chef in a friend's room in the hall in UK. It was how he made cooking seem so… easy. Jamie Oliver taught me to cook, and I've never looked back.Needless to say, I was quite excited to try a couple of his restaurants when in London in May/June this year. We celebrated my birthday at ... read more
On to Term 3, Looking back at Term 2
After our very extended holiday, Noey is back to school for Term 3. He had a bit of a shaky start, and I suppose I don't blame him, seeing as we were away for quite a long time. It does take some time to get back into the swing of things. On his second day back, he woke up tired after having taken a long time to sleep the previous night. He complained and dragged his feet as I got him ready for school, and when it was time for the drop-off, he stoically started the walk to class, albeit with ... read more
