One of the activities I had put down on our Advent list was to go play with Snow.Of course, here in the tropics, there isn't any real snow to speak of. Oh no. But here in Singapore, we don't let that stop us. In true Singapore-style, we churn it our ourselves. Only it isn't actually snow in this case, but stage snow -- a rather dense foam blown out by snow blowers. These days, I realise that there are a few venues where you can get to play with "snow" during this festive period -- like City ... read more
Babies’ Proms 2012
We attended this year's edition of the SSO Babies' Proms a couple of weeks back before Nomi fell ill. It was the third year for Noey and I, and the first year for Nomi, but I was surprised to learn that this year's edition was the 10th anniversary concert. Wow! I didn't realise that Babies' Proms has been running for that long! It remains a highly popular concert with parents and young children, with the tickets selling out within days of going on sale. While I might grumble about the ... read more
Have a Heart, Share-A-Gift
I previously wrote about how we are hoping to support the Boys' Brigade Share-A-Gift Project this Christmas. I took the kids along to NTUC Finest at Bukit Timah Plaza two weeks ago to buy food to donate as part of our contribution to this cause. Noey was full of questions -- What does "needy" mean? Why can't they buy their own food? -- and it was a good opportunity to explain why we were doing this. He accepted it easily enough. And when we got to the supermarket, we quickly got down to work. I ... read more
Cook: Potato Gratin
Christmas dinner is one of my favourite meals, not just to eat, but also to cook. Yes, it takes me hours, but nothing beats the satisfaction of having the table set with festive delights. Roast Beef! Ham! Turkey! Mmmm. Today I thought I'd share a recipe for something new that I'm looking to put on the Christmas menu this year -- Potato Gratin. I'm always on the lookout for good side dishes, and potato is something that just never fails, especially when paired with meats. My usual staple is ... read more
Having the Sickies
It's been a long and stressful week. Our little Nomi hasn't been well. She caught a cold/cough from Noey last weekend, but whereas he bounced back from it fairly quickly, she's been battling the symptoms all week. I always dread it when she falls ill as her fevers tend to be high (above 39°C) and prolonged. The poor girl was also coughing nasty phlegmy sounding coughs, which, over the past few days, got bad enough to affect her sleep -- and mine.We were worried enough at one point to bring her ... read more
We’re Going to Ride… The Dinosaur Train!
Just as I was telling you how much I tried to avoid queuing for mall shows, whaddya know, I go do it again! The Dinosaur Train rolled into town at Marina Square and well, we just had to catch it. Both my kids love this series, Nomi obviously as a result of Noey's influence. "Saur-saur Train!" she would exclaim. It's one of Noey's all-time favs. After all, it combines both his favourites -- trains AND dinosaurs. What's there not to love right?Unfortunately Nomi's been rather under the weather, so ... read more
Celebrating Advent
We are moving swiftly through December. Or is it just me who is feeling that way as I spend my days running rings around two little ones? Our November and December has been full of activity and meet-ups, and I am very thankful for that. Meeting my friends in between doing things with my children keeps me going. And we're now looking forward to Christmas. I started last year what I hope will be a tradition of celebrating Advent in our home. Anticipating the arrival of Christmas was always ... read more
Lollibox: Moon & Stars Review + Coupon Code
I love bringing my kids on excursions and for outdoor play but the recent wet weather has made this rather difficult. Plans have been scrapped, sometimes at the last minute, and I would be scratching my head and falling over myself to think up some activity that would keep my house-bound restless kids busy (and isn't, erm, TV).Fortunately for me, when we last found ourselves stuck indoors earlier in the week, I had the help of Lollibox. The concept of Lollibox is simple, but clever. With the aim ... read more
Padding Around in Pedipeds
We were recently invited to Pediped's first ever showcase event, featuring its latest fall/winter 2012 collection.I am quite a fan of Pediped's shoes, having stumbled upon them when I was on the look out for shoes for Noey when he first started walking. I wanted good shoes with very flexible soles and Pediped's Grip 'n' Gos fit the bill. Noey moved rather quickly on to their Flex line, no thanks to his huge feet, and he himself fell in love with a pair of Amazon Sandals which he literally wore ... read more
Thank Goodness for Cat!
One of the great things that happens when the holidays roll round is that the malls start staging lots of good performances for kids. The best part is that they're free! Of course, the not-so-good part is that they require you to put in the effort to queue up and jostle with others for seats.Honestly, I usually try to avoid queues like plague, but some weeks back, I saw the poster for the show "Cat" at Forum Galleria and thought it would be a good one for both my kids.I made a date with two ... read more
