Yesterday marked the 7th year that DD and I have been married. To celebrate, we decided to slip out, just the two of us, for a good dinner. I got the kids fed, then kissed them goodbye and firmly shut the door behind me. DD felt bad for leaving the kids behind, but not me. I think we both need a bit more time to to spend with each other, and with it being our wedding anniversary, I think we deserved it!We plumped for Luke's Oyster Bar & Chop House -- yet another on my must-try list -- ... read more
Noah’s 4th: Noahsaurus Rex Turns 4!
We had Noey's final big bash on Saturday in the weekend following his birthday. This was the highlight of his birthday celebrations, for him and for me!After the big party that was his 1st birthday, we had kept Noey's 2nd and 3rd birthdays progressively smaller. Partly from lack of energy on my part (you know, from being pregnant and having a newborn respectively), but also because I figured he wouldn't appreciate it. This year was different. He's older, more able to participate in games, and ... read more
Global Handwashing Day
When folks ask me what I do, most times, I tell that that I stay at home to look after kids. Sometimes when I'm in a crabby mood, I tell them that I'm a driver-chef-reader-playmate-plus-butt & hand washer to my kids. Fortunately I'm not crabby too often.I'm not joking about the job description though, and today, I'm here to talk about the hand washing part of my job.Like most Mums I know, the phrases "HAVE YOU WASHED YOUR HANDS??" and "WASH YOUR HANDS FIRST!" frequently fall from my lips. In ... read more
Live Together In Perfect Harmony…
After 6 weeks of staying with us, my MIL moved home earlier this week. Yes, 6 weeks!Honestly, if you told me that we'd be living together for such an extended period of time before we embarked on it, I would have had my reservations. But there was no choice about it. My MIL was undertaking some pretty extensive renovations of her home and it was just not practical for her to be staying there with her furniture all stacked up, dust everywhere and the workers tramping all over her home. So she ... read more
Noah’s 4th: School Celebration
Since Noey's actual birthday fell on a Tuesday, we had a small celebration for him in school that morning. The theme for the day? Why, dinosaurs, of course! It should have been a simple celebration, but there were two things I really wanted to do for Noey on this day. First, I wanted to make his cake, and second, I wanted to make him a special shirt to wear. And with the goody bags that had to be packed and the additional jellies that I wanted to bring, I was looking at quite a bit of work on my ... read more
Fantastic 4 Turn 4
We had the first of Noey's birthday celebrations the Friday before his birthday with his three other pals, all born within a week of each other. We used to call them the October babies, but seeing as they are babies no longer, we have graduated to calling them the Fantastic Four. Which they are, of course.I count myself blessed to have met these Mums and their lovely kids. It was serendipitous, the way we met, inter-connected by different means, but coming together because we each knew another ... read more
Noah’s 4th: Done and Dusted!
It's been a week since I posted, but boy, has it felt like a long week!In the meantime, Noey turned 4. In style, I should add. We had some pretty epic birthday celebrations, at least by my standards! Planning and executing all of it took a long while because once I like an idea, I find ways and means to bring it to life, preferably by hand-making everything. Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it), I have my husband. While he is mostly supportive of the crazy ideas I come ... read more
3 Today, 4 Tomorrow
He's 3 today, but when he wakes up tomorrow, he will be 4.Come tomorrow, I would also have been a mother for 4 years. 4 years might seem like a decent amount of time to be at a job, but at this one, I'm still learning. Today was a busy one for me as I slowly descended into panic mode about Noey's birthday celebrations. Noey will be celebrating his birthday in school tomorrow and today I was finalising the goody bags, making jelly and planning the last steps involved in putting his cake together. ... read more
Lantern Festival at the Chinese Garden 2012
The Mid-Autumn Festival is upon us! Are you up to your ears in mooncake yet?For the children, this time is all about the lanterns. I got them a couple of electric Angry Birds lanterns from Cold Storage and they had been slowly destroying my mind with repetitive midi music. Thankfully I had the presence of mind to tape up the sound box on the lanterns before turning them over to the kids so my eardrums have been spared. Seriously, why do they make the music on these lanterns SO PIERCING?? I can't ... read more
Love, Love, Love… How We Came To Be
DD and I met practically on the first day of Uni and were good friends for 3 years before we got together. I always tease him that our story starts a little earlier for me than for him -- I have this distinct memory of being at our Uni orientation camp and my camp roommate Jo pointing out DD to me over breakfast one morning and saying “XX (referring to the word emblazoned across DD’s T-shirt) is quite cute.” I remember agreeing with her…For most of 1st year, we hung out in the same group and ... read more
