It's been a while since I've posted a cooking post. The reason is, of course, that I haven't been cooking much this year. However, as the second trimester energy and nesting instinct kicked in, I have been inspired to do more -- Clean! Do some home improvement! Meet up with friends! And yes, cook! Over the last month or so, we've had various groups of friends and family over for dinner parties and pizza-pasta take-out. And I had fun rehashing many of my tried and true recipes: Caprese salad, ... read more
Sydney 2010: Out & About Darling Harbour
After 3 days at Port Stephens, we drove back to Sydney and embarked on the solo portion of our trip. Well, kinda solo since we still met up with Dad and the rest of the family on a couple of occasions. Our main reason for moving to stay in the City was so that it would be easier to visit some of the attractions in and around Sydney's City Centre, including the Sydney Aquarium and The Australian Museum. With that in mind, and given the fact that we were travelling with a young tot in tow, we ... read more
Big Hugs
I have been told before that boys are less affectionate than girls but when I look at my son, I can't believe that to be the case.My favourite part of the day everyday is the moment when I step into the house. Each and every time, I would be greeted with a delighted "MUMMY!" as he runs towards me to give my legs a huge hug. He'd then ask to be carried and give me a good proper hug and pat my shoulder. And if I'd been away the whole day, he would usually also put his face in front of mine, ... read more
Sydney 2010: Sand Play
Aside from the dolphins and whales, the other thing which we thought Noey would enjoy at Port Stephens was the beach. His ears prick up every time we mention the word "beach". In fact, while discussing our itinerary for this trip one night, we let slip the fact that we could go to the beach one day, and we had to put up with his incessant requests to "go! Go to the beeeeach!" He only stopped when we pointed out that the beach would be dark at night. (Noey's scared of the dark, you see. I have no ... read more
Sydney 2010: Whale Watching
Going whale watching was one of the highlights of our trip (which, yes, was quite a while back by now!).After the very wet weather the day before, we were really happy to see the sun the next morning and wasted no time getting ourselves down to the jetty to see what trip we could take that day. Our original plan was to take a boat out to see some dolphins but when we realised that it was still possible to see whales (we were at the tail-end of the season), we quickly decided that would be way ... read more
Tick Tock Tick Tock
Time is certainly whizzing by: In a blink of an eye, I'm nearly into my 3rd trimester!I sometimes feel a little bad for Baby #2 because I honestly have not devoted as much time to thinking or caring for her as much as I did when I was expecting Noey. I can barely remember to take my vits and DHA pills regularly, let alone spend time dreaming and communicating with the bub in utero. I am sometimes even shocked when I realise how huge my belly is getting. Sorry Baby Girl, Mummy will make up for it ... read more
Grow Grow Grow
Remember that mini garden Noey put together at Hort Park a couple of weeks back? I'd forgotten how easily green bean plants germinate and how quickly they grow!Monday morning: Little roots germinating.Tuesday morning: Some of the shoots have already come up and leaves are starting to unfurl. If you look carefully, you'll see that a couple of the corn seeds have also put out roots. My little gardener. Obviously more interested in digging things up than leaving them to grow.Wednesday ... read more
Hot at Hort Park
Woke up on Saturday feeling a bit out of sorts -- I'd been (and still am!) nursing a cold since Wednesday, no thanks to Noey who passed on his cold/throat infection to me -- but I had my heart set going out that day and I wasn't going to let a cold stop me! I'd come across ads about Playeum's Big Draw Event happening at Hort Park that day and wanted to check it out. DD was really doubtful about me going out, but he knew better than to badger me about it too much. So off we went.Noey looking ... read more
Poop!
If you've ever wondered why guys enjoy toilet humour, I think it is because they found it funny as kids and never grew out of it.In our household, the poop jokes have started.Noey's always had a sense of humour, though most of the things he finds funny are of the slapstick variety. He'd look at pictures in his books and peal with laughter over some of the incongruous images or listen to stories and laugh over calamitous situations. "So funny!" he'd exclaim. I guess this is one of the reasons why ... read more
And The Band Played On
What's this that you've brought me to, Mummy?Quite by chance, Noey and I were able to attend SSO's Babies' Proms this year.I'd heard of this really popular programme by the SSO from my colleagues who had been trying to get tickets. But when the tickets went on sale back in Sept, they sold out really quickly and none of us were able to get hold any tickets.I had clean forgotten about it till I was surfing the web on Tuesday night, the day before Hari Raya Haji and chanced upon the fact that ... read more
