I'm usually not very adventurous when it comes to cooking local food at home. I think this is mainly because the somehow the recipes for the dishes that interest me always seem to have too many steps! But I recently came across this Prawn Mee recipe which was given good reviews and didn't seem too difficult, so I decided to give my local-food-loving husband a treat and have Prawn Mee for dinner on Thursday. This was the result:I had cut down on the water required, using 4 cups instead of 5, ... read more
Playing our way through Playdays
While talking about schooling in my earlier post, I realise that I haven't mentioned the playgroup class that Noey has been attending since the start of the year. Once a week, Noey and I head down to Playdays for a morning of songs, toys, and well, getting messy. I decided to try Playdays primarily because it's a 5 min drive from my place, but also because I was looking for a programme that involved more play -- not "learning through play" but actual playing you know, for FUN. I wanted something ... read more
*Cough Cough Cough*
We've been a bit under the weather lately.Noey's been having a cough/cold for about 2 weeks now, which he generously shared with me. And we've just been passing the bug between us over the past couple of weeks. He was originally diagnosed with a throat infection but just when I thought he was getting better -- with a less nasty sounding cough and no runny nose -- he came down with a fever on Thursday that came on and off till Sunday. His cough is phlegmy again and he's dripping thick mucus from ... read more
Joshua 24:15
I am not given to posting links but I came across this post yesterday and, well, it was just the perfect read for the Lord's Day.May we indeed always serve the living and true God, and not the god of our whims and fancies.Designer Babies, Designer God ... read more
Musing About Schooling
I've been giving a bit more thought recently to whether we should start Noey in pre-nursery next year or not. Believe me, I've been thinking about this for a LONG time. Ever since Noey was about a month old and my cousin came to visit me and told me back then that if I wanted Noey to attend St James Church Kindy, I had to register him IMMEDIATELY. "Huh?", I thought back then, looking at the wee baby in my arms. I nevertheless dutifully called the kindy a couple of weeks later to enquire about ... read more
Mama’s Magic Elbow
Short of being nursed to sleep -- something which has always proven to be supremely effective, I think most kids need some kind of prop to help them soothe themselves to sleep. Most commonly this would either be the pacifier or the thumb. Some also have some kind of security blanket or soft toy that they must have all the time or which they need to hug to sleep. Noey is somewhat different. He took to the pacifier early on but around the 8th month or so, he decided that he wanted nothing to do ... read more
Mummy Jungle Gym
What always seems to happen when Mama (conveniently for Noey, unfortunately for her) happens to be sitting on the ground reading the papers:Free fun! Just bring your own hapless Mummy! My Mum was just commenting today that my arms looked like they had more muscle in them recently. She said they looked "bigger" but I'll pretend she meant they looked more toned. Heh. With Noey and his antics to deal with everyday, I think I have had no choice but to develop more muscle power! ... read more
Do you know the Muffin Man?
While I like to cook, I rarely ever bake. This is a combination of the fact that I lack kitchen space for baking equipment (which DD is very against me buying), I don't have a decent counter top to work on for all the measuring and mixing and the 1001 little bowls that I always seem to need when I'm baking, and really the fact that unlike the vast majority of my female friends, I can't eat cake for meals. While I am fond of my desserts, I am more of a savoury girl at heart. Gimme a curry puff ... read more
Oct Babies Meet Dot!
The Oct babies got together last Sat to meet the newest addition to the group, Bean's new little 妹妹, Dot!. Little 2-week old Dot! She was extremely good the entire time and slept through the ruckus the others were making until the end when she roused for a feed. What a dream baby! The little guest of honour was oblivious to everything and everyone as the bubs made themselves extremely at home in the toy kingdom that is Momo's. Bean was a little shy at first, having all these other folks just ... read more
Overnight at the Swissotel
We took advantage of the Good Friday holiday to utilise a soon-to-be-expiring hotel voucher and checked into the Swissotel Stamford for a night away from home. We couldn't get another night as the hotel was fully booked but on the plus side, they allowed us to check in at 9am on Friday so we really got to enjoy an extended stay nonetheless! All bright and cheery making himself at home!"Hey, this phone works! Awesome!" It worked too well unfortunately. We ended up paying $2.50 for a call he ... read more
