Goodbye, till we meet again. And when we do, don't forget to come up to us and tell us that it's you.We will be waiting. In the meantime, we rest easy knowing that you are safe, in the Father's loving hands. ... read more
Down at the Cove
It was family gatherings galore for 元宵 this year, starting with a visit to Uncle B & Aunty C's condo at Sentosa Cove for lunch. It was our first time in Sentosa Cove and the suakus that we are, we were gawking all the way in at the huge houses lining the road. And we got a pretty good viewtoo, since the houses had neither gates nor fences in front nor between them to block the view. It was quite a sight, though we were, once again, given examples of how money can't buy taste.I must say it was ... read more
Little Sponge
Noey is a little sponge these days. You'll never know when he'll pick up on something you've said or make an association when you least expect it.My sister was just commenting that she used to wonder how specific she should be when identifying objects for Noey, but she has decided she'll just go ahead "tell it like it is" instead of worring about dumbing it down for him since he seems perfectly capable of absorbing the information. And so have we. So instead of "bird", we've moved on to "mynah", ... read more
Miss Cyclade
My latest acquisition arrived today and guess who got his grubby fingers on it real quick? My little bag hag, at it again.A bright blue this time, and a belated Christmas and Valentine's present from the hubs. What a good end to the work week! ... read more
Noey and His Nai Nai
One of the good things that has come out of my part-time work arrangement is that Noey gets to spend a fair amount of one-on-one time with his grandparents. I know DD and I both feel that it is important for Noey to feel a bond with his grandparents, especially when they all love him sooooo much. My mother-in-law and her relationship with him has been a real success story in this regard. The fondness he has for her now is the clearest example of that fact that if you spend time and effort ... read more
Our Enthusiastic Lo-Hei-er
After his first Lo Hei experience of the year, Noey hasn't been able to get enough of the whole experience -- he absolutely loves it, and he makes enough noise to show you that he does! Our most enthusiastic "Lo Hei-er" certainly adds to the festivities! With the CNY period officially coming to a close, I think there's just about time for him to squeeze in a final Lo Hei session this weekend and show off his Gong Xi gestures and collect some angpows for his efforts. Speaking of angpows, believe it ... read more
Celebrating the New Year
I have a love-hate relationship with the celebration of the Lunar New Year. I hate the bad music, the silly superstitions (which has led to us having a collection of new year goodies foisted on us which I know we will not finish) and how absolutely tiring it is. Most of all, I hate how it is the mother of all family obligations. Like the sum total of all family obligations rolled into one very busy day.But when I didn't have to celebrate it, like in the year that I was away ... read more
团圆
Our reunion dinner was a quiet one this year. We joined DD's family for a small immediate-family-only dinner at DDMum's place, instead of having the usual gathering at another Uncle's home. I must admit that I do miss the bigger and noisier gatherings with my parents and my extended family on reunion night. Somehow it doesn't feel like the New Year is nearly upon us without all the people and the attendant noise! Then again, the extra face at the table with us this year made more than his fair ... read more
New Clothes for the New Year
One of the traditions that my mother has always kept is getting us new clothes for the New Year. Her tales of how as a child she used to get new clothes only once a year during the New Year still remain etched in my mind. Of course we are more fortunate these days and get new clothes as and when we want. Still, I try to make it a point to get something new for the New Year. (Ok, so I don't really need an excuse to shop.)This year I was determined to put Noey in a ching-chong outfit just for the ... read more
Taking the Bus
During our evening walk on Wednesday, we took a short walk to the bus stop just outside our development for Noey to get his bus fix. Like I said before, he really loves them buses! He stood there staring and occasionally pointing out the passing vehicles to me -- "Baa! Tuck! Van! Tar!" (Yes, he only says "van" clearly. I'm sure you can figure out the rest!)As the next bus pulled into the bus stop, I asked him a silly question "Noey, would you like to go on the bus?"Silly because he immediately ... read more
