First Steps

August 21, 2009 by Mummybean 7 Comments

Noey took his first steps about 2 weeks ago on 6 August while we were on a playdate with Fans and YK. I thought the tod and baby might enjoy having some space to run about so I suggested Scrumptious, and the kids had a whale of a time messing around.

Stairs! Noey’s fav terrain to conquer.

“Look at me Mummy! I’m going to come down one way or another!”

“Wheeee!

In the midst of playing, Noey spotted — of all things — a bicycle wheel on the next table. For some reason he reeaaaally wanted it and Mummy wasn’t being particularly forthcoming. So he let go of the chair he was holding on to and made the 3 steps across the floor to the next table (and the wheel of course). I was really kicking myself for forgetting to bring my camera that day!

Unfortunately he came down with a fever and flu that night and that put the brakes on the independent walking for a bit. He was more unsteady during his recovery and went back to being happy to cruise along with the aid of one finger. Yup, one finger was all he wanted.

I got him a pair of new shoes recently and after bringing him downstairs to walk around a bit, which included getting him to walk on his own towards me a bit, he seems to have recovered his confidence. It also helps to give him an incentive! Like strawberries in this case:

Since then he’s been attempting to walk whenever he can, for short stretches. This boy is pretty cautious and if it seems like too a long a distance to him, he’s back on the floor and crawling. But I guess we’ll be running after him before long!

He looks so tall in the video! So cute lah!

Raeann loves to walk around the house with the aid of one finger too, but the moment I take it away, she'll stop or start to crawl. Can't wait for her to start walking! Hee.

yuling, they start like that. I guess the boys are more daring and adventurous so they started walking already.

Beanbean, here's the start of our nightmares. Lol! So cute, he's so focused on the strawberry.
