Kick & Play

April 14, 2011 by Mummybean 5 Comments

Why, hello there birdie!

At 6 weeks, Naomi is starting to show a little more interest in the toys and things around her. Cue: Time to break out the playgym and crank up the mobile!

You would think that this being our second child, we would be well equipped with the necessary baby gear, but no. Between the stuff that Noey didn’t like (ie. rockers, swings, etc.) and stuff which he took apart (ie. the toys from his playgym), I found our stash of baby equipment surprisingly thin. Not wanting to end up buying stuff that I wasn’t sure if Naomi would like, and which we would only have use of for a short time, I decided to rent stuff instead.

After some surfing around, I settled on Toy Rental World and got that ubiquitous Fisher-Price Newborn to Toddler Rocker from them last month, and the Fisher-Price Rainforest Gym this month. As it turned out, Naomi loved the rocker. Or at least, we loved the rocker because she would fall asleep in it. Not always, but enough for us to go out and buy one when our rental was up!

While I was at it, I also rented a play kitchen for Noey and we had a lot fun having pretend meals of duplo blocks served on little plates.

While rental isn’t the cheapest either, I appreciated the fact that it rental allowed us to try out the items before committing to purchasing them. For this, I would wholly recommend it. This especially when baby equipment is not cheap and very bulky to store. The downside though is that you might have to return an item that you really like and would like to hang on to after the rental period if someone else has reserved the item.

Anyhow, I’m glad that someone here is having fun with the playgym. The poor girl has had to self-entertain quite a bit, since she can’t demand attention the way her brother can. Still, she’s been a good sport about it mostly. Naomi would coo and grunt at the toys and flashing lights, and occasionally reach out a hand to bat at the toys hanging within her reach. I don’t know if she does this intentionally. Probably not, but it’s fun to watch her do it anyway!

Oops, I’ve fallen off my pillow in my excitement!

Now I’m wondering if I should get the battery operated cot mobile with remote control which, I am told, plays for 20 minutes…

I haven't been popping into this lovely space for a while, and now that I do, lil Nomi has really grown since birth and is looking very much like you with those beautiful eyes.
