Oliver Jeffers is one of our favourite authors, yet I discovered him quite by chance, when I was planning Mei’s first birthday. I make it a point to give a book as a party favour every birthday and for Mei’s birthday that year, I was looking for a book to match her “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” when I found How To Catch A Star. I loved it from the first reading, and that was how Oliver Jeffers’ books became a staple in our home library.
After How To Catch A Star, Oliver Jeffers went on to write 3 more books featuring the same little boy in the striped shirt. Together, How To Catch A Star, The Way Back Home, Lost and Found and Up and Down form a loose collection of four books, all which I would highly recommend as they all very endearing in their own way.
We all have our personal favourites in this set, but Noey’s is The Way Back Home. Why, you ask? Well, in this story, there is a little boy, who flies a plane high up in the sky, makes an emergency landing on the moon, and meets a Martian! Need I say more? In truth, I like this sweet story too where a stranded little boy meets a stranded little Martian, and manage to work together to find their way back home.
We were all therefore stoked to hear that The Way Back Home has been brought to the stage and will be coming to Singapore this September at the newly renovated Alliance Française Theatre! Created by the team behind hit shows like Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus and The Night Before Christmas, and featuring music produced by the composers of The Gruffalo and Room On The Broom, this show promises to be a interactive musical production that the whole family will enjoy!
